Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

You never responded to this guy, he was willing to put your lights on his truck and actually do some real diagnosis.

You doubt it's the lights? I really can't understand why you would even think of putting those lights back on, every time your truck has been disabled it had the lights installed, Toyota engineers told you they were the cause, you're being stubborn, or a super fan boy yourself! The brighter lights are not worth the thousands in rental fees.
I, like most on here (definitely not all) have been very sympathetic during your ordeal, but after you put the lights back on this time, my sympathy has evaporated. Do what you want, but to me this thread is the true definition of insanity.

 

Ya, I would do every thing possible to prove its not the lights, which means I would not put them back on until the truck fails with out them.

 

Excuse me if I'm hesitant to send hundreds of dollars worth of stuff.

The lights are not back on the truck and were removed when the truck failed this last time... Unfortunately the truck did not recover like the dealer claimed it did. "As soon as we unplugged them the truck ran" is what I was told last time.

This time around I am told, once again, that it is sand infiltration and had nothing todo with lights.

Really.... Its what ever the dealer feels like charging me for...

Thousands of people run the exact set up I have with no issues so it leaves me to question...



In all reality I don't think anyone knows what/how/why my truck has issues.

I'm leaving the lights out for now. I won't wash the engine bay, and see what happens.

The wording on my service ticket is very precarious and someone went the extra mile to cover themselves... Makes me wonder.

I would wash part of the truck ever dam day, don't take it near sand and keep it stock. If there is something wrong it will happen again, just when is the question. Or I would have already drove the truck into the sales floor of the dealership and tossed the keys to the sales folks.

 

There's some implications another member was telling me about that I have to make sire of before I run off and trade it in.

I'm also going to see if there's a military clause in the lease terms

 

Well, haven't washed the truck since I got it back, and no issues.
It's filthy, and I cringe at times, but what ever.

It's been through some rough conditions in Tahoe (they closed the roads AFTER I passed through) and Reno was flooded. There's also a lot of flossing going around here in CA and I frequently have to pass through deep puddles or roads that's are flooded... No issues.

This trucks an odd one. Lol.

I'm going to wash it and seal it before I have to put it in storage for 6 months...

I have to go say hi to the Taliban... We'll see. If it fucks up, at least it has a lot of time to sit and think about it's actions lol

 

I apologize if this was covered in the thread already. I've followed a little but haven't read the majority of the 64 pages. How exactly are you getting sand in your gas tank? How is that even possible without opening the gas cap and dumping sand in there?

 

Stay safe over there and don't mess with the TCNs. I wish you a safe trip and pray for your safe return. Hopefully the truck will get her attitude on track and treat you well when you get back.

That is the 14,000 dollar question my friend. No one can find the answer and I keep getting screwed because of it.

 

I've followed this thread off and on for a long time. This is the most bizarre story. I would have given up by now. I admire your resolve

For those just coming in- No, there is still no explanation for this phenomenon.

 

Have you physically seen the sand they claim is in the gas tank? And it's sand, not just general dirt and junk.

Edit: Another question: Do you fill up at the same gas stations typically?

 

Plus side, when you get off deployment with all of that tax free cash you can sell your lease and buy a new tacoma with cash

 

The first time they had a fuel sample in the techs Starbucks Expresso bottle he was drinking. They claimed there was sand but it was a few particles at best. I couldn't see it. When I questioned it, they told me it dissolved...

Around town I use the same two stations almost exclusively, the one on base and a top tier chain.

At Pismo inside the only gas station in town, which no one else has issues with .

According to them, it's what ever I drive through. It's been sand twice and volcanic dust once.

 

In waiting for the new broncos to come out. I'll probably lease the new ranger when it comes out, and ride it out until the second year broncos hit the lots.

Not sure I'm going to be able to willingly keep Toyota. I've quite literally had more problems with this brand new off the lot truck than I have with my last 3 Ford's (all used, 2 and 3 owner) combined.

The gearbox on this truck is also loosing it's smoothness, and the throttle input lagginess is really bothering me. I'll wait and see what Toyota has at the end of 2018 and compare, but if it's still the same disappointment I'll probably move on. We'll see lol.

As far as deployment money goes... It's all going towards my debt, student loans etc.

 

It dissolved in the cup of gas but not while it sat in the tank all that time? Sounds like a bunch of BS they are trying to fed you.

 

Exactly. Gas doesn't dissolve sand. Period.
