CBI Tacoma bumper with swingout: $1,400.

A buddy's JK or YJ bumper with swingout:
    $200.

So has anyone modified an aftermarket jeep bumper to fit a Tacoma?

If you can make mounts for it no problem if it's not too wide or narrow - gotta take measurements and know how to cut some plates to adapt it to fit to the frame and be able to weld it on which doesn't seem like you can do that if you're asking.

Check out the newer vendors on here that might not charge quite as much as CBI if you need a bolt on bumper. Hot Metal Fab is talking about making a swingout for first gens. They have a thread on here for their front bumpers.

I am sure it can be done if your not real picky about how things end up

    Then J**ps and Toyota`s don`t mix well

Yes it is possible but I don’t recommend it unless your stuck in your shop with a whole pack of sawzall blades and a welder because of a world wide pandemic

Smitty built carbine bumper I got for 200 bucks. Lots of cutting on bumper and frame. Moving of cross members and fabing of brackets.

    upload_2020-4-4_8-11-11.jpg
front cross chopped and moved up, radiator support notched and opened up for frame attached support mounted in engine bay.

    upload_2020-4-4_8-14-54.jpg
Bumper support that mounts on frame rail inside engine bay and sticks out through radiator support.

    Shit got complicated pretty quick.

Just curious why you did not stretch the bumper out wider like a regular Tacoma Bumper?

Time constraints or lack of material ?/

It’s not quite done yet. Working on making sure it doesn’t fall off was the most important thing. I will probably extend the sides when I get a chance. Was thinking of using aluminum. It’s gonna take a lot of sitting and staring and thinking

I know old post and all, but I just did a search because I'm getting ready to do this very thing. I have an 01 DC, just put some 33x10.5 KO2's on it and I've had the winch laying around in my shop for a few years. Decided this will be easier than building a plat bumper from scratch (I hope) Will document the build as well as possible, I don't always remember to take pictures. I'm planning on adding some more plate steel to the outside edges of the bumper to help it "wrap" around the curved front.20200929_193710.jpg 20200929_193722.jpg

Okay I was able to get some more welding done on it today. Slowly but surely I will have a good plate bumper able to withstand winching torque. Here's a few more shots of the progress for anyone interested. A Jeep bumper can definitely fit on a Tacoma. I'm definitely not the worlds most precise fabricator. Much of it is done strictly by eyeball and then custom fitting and still I have goofy welds, etc. So, yes, I know it could be a lot better but I'm just working with what I have and doing the best I can with it. Anyway, I still have to weld on a plate at the front bottom of the bumper and then fabricate a skid plate. and of course, grind and paint20201004_163903_HDR.jpg 20201004_154604_HDR.jpg 20201004_181908.jpg 20201004_181901_HDR.jpg 20201018_110739_HDR.jpg 20201018_110748_HDR.jpg 20201018_163839_HDR.jpg
