I use a leaf blower to get most of the water off then finish with a microfiber drying towel

@M2loco I am going thru the same situation right now. I bought mine a year ago and I admit I had never run thru brushless car wash until this past month. I have also hardly used my sunroof in past year and the shade is always closed.

When I went thru car wash last month I had the shade drawn back and I was "sprayed" with water leaking from the most rear part of the glass. I checked to make sure there were not foreign object contacting the glass and seal and ran it thru again recently and same outcome. There is a drain pan to collect small drips but I doubt it is designed to collect a mass flow of water.

Dealer initially said it was "normal" and I did not want them to wash with their carwash with brushes - no way on my Black Tacoma! I showed them the video I took of water flowing into the cabin and they are having me bring it back for their corporate tech representative to look at. Service manager noticed that the transition between the sunroof glass and metal on that back side was quite uneven compared to the rest of the sunroof/metal transitions. It also seemed to have quite a bit of flex on the top sheet metal.

I am going to try and attach video again. I took it on my iPhone and the clip shows up on Quicktime media player and format seems to be .mov I am not very tech savvy - if anyone can tell me what format I need to convert it to so I can show you I would be grateful. I think this is a bigger problem then many realize.... took me a year to even notice I had an issue.

So I tried uploading file and this is the error message I get....
    The following error occurred
The uploaded file does not have an allowed extension.

Hope they fix it for you so it doesn't leak any longer.

Man I feel your pain and your right many people think they don't but haven't run it through a carwash with four paper towels in all four corners. So I posted this a while ago and no one really responded. I guarantee if everyone with new Tacomas with sunroofs would put paper towels in all four corners they would be shocked how much water comes in. There is the dilemma since owners don't check and file more complaints Toyota treats it as an isolated incident. I had the main tech from Toyota came up from another state and he said it's an acceptable amount of water coming in the vehicle and that it didn't leak as bad as the other brand new Tacomas on the lot. People are going to post that's why the drain holes are there for when water comes in. I understand that but I also expect consistency that all four paper towels should have the same amount of wetness but in mine and most cases they don't. Mine are all wet with one being so drenched that I can ring it out Like it's been sitting in water. Good luck with yours and please keep me up to date. Don't let them replace it because when they replaced mine it made it worse. I would rather keep the paper towels in there when I'm going through a car wash because I would rather have the paper towel soak up the soap instead of clogging my drain hose

Zero water leaks is acceptable, sounds like you had a piss poor experience!

    Update on my leak.

This is Toyota dealers reply. Basically adjusted some screws near sunroof to help make it "flatter" transition between metal and glass on rear-most part of sunroof- did not make a difference when going thru car wash. So basically, nothing they will do. Based on feedback from @M2loco, not gonna pursue trying to replace it.

More annoying than anything else. I doubt in downpour rain it will pour in like in car wash. Still my 02 4Runner and '10 Lexus have NO issues going through same car wash!! Starting to question Toyota quality control or maybe just curse of buying first year of new model. Oddly enough, dealer told me a '17 Tacoma came in next day complaining of same issue and he goes to same car wash!

At this point all I'm going to do is write lengthy letter to Customer Experience Center 800-331-4331 and tell them my disappointment in their QC department.

On a slight tangent, I've heard of some TSBs on various issues and asked them update all of them on my truck. Only one I did was last year on the transmission when it was constantly shifting gears around 65 mph. Well, he said he can't do that. I have to come in and complain of specific issue. Also, Toyota does not issue a notice or post them since it is not a recall issue!! How stupid. I'm hoping there is a thread on all TSBs for the third gen!

I would not call this normal but until people start complaining more Toyota will not do anything. Really questioning their quality when I see a failure like this. This coming from someone who has 3 Toyotas in his garage.

Wow, that's nuts. Is it just me, or did the sunroof physically move in the last few seconds of the video?

I just texted my dad and asked if his 99 landcruiser built in 98 has a sunroof leak during this pissing Seattle rain. No, it does not and never has. Toyota quality aint what it used to be. Can't deny that.

Sorry for the time that Toyota wasted OP. Good luck.

Yes it does leak in the rain and I posted that a while back ago but since it goes right to the drain holes then it's ok according to Toyota. My 06 Malibu has a factory sunroof and all four paper towels are dry. I can't believe that we r the only two incidents. I feel like calling the local news to get the word out. I know people with sunroof have read this and probably blew it off but if I had to guess I bet 99% of them leak or have some water coming in.

Mine does not leak but then again I never opened it after owning it a year and a half. I didn't care to have a sunroof but it was part of the tech package I wanted. I figured if I did not want it in the first place why open it and take the chance it would not close properly and begin to leak.

I run mine through the touchless car wash every so often, no leaks.

Dude a lot of people think theirs doesn't leak like you do but did u put paper towels in all four corners. Just looking at mine with a naked eye I would say the same as you but I only found out after I put the paper towels in did I know. all of them are not as bad as toyo71 but I guarantee if you put the paper towels in there you will find some dampness.
