Bishop traded to the Kings.

 

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded goaltender Ben Bishop and a fifth round pick in the 2017 draft to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for goaltender Peter Budaj, defenceman Erik Cernak, a 7th round pick in the 2017 NHL draft and a conditional pick in the same draft.

When bishop is focused, hes real good. Huge size too. Still sorta pissed that the Sens parted ways with him years back.

 

We'll see if it works out as well as the last trade the Wild made with Arizona..

I think Lombardi basically slapped Budaj in the face, with that move. I realize he isn't a pure #1, but with Quick coming back, he'd be great to compliment Quick moving forward (assuming Vegas didn't take him). So instead they get a rental, who obviously isn't going to be there next year. Plus, they will be searching for a back-up. They need some forwards. Gaborik makes 4mil+/yr and sits in the press box lol.

An argument could be made that Boood-eye is the better net minder ! I knew BB's time was limited when AV stole the show in the playoffs.

I just hope the forgetful (majority) LA fans don't forget who is the real #1 goalie ! ...perhaps this will push JQ to really focus ?

 

Bishop is absolutely the better goalie, so he is better than Budaj for the playoff run. So in that respect, the Kings didn't do anything to hurt their chances at that position. But I think Budaj proved he can hold the fort down if need be (as well as can be realistically expected). Plus, they could still have him in the future. I think they need offense though, so we will see if they add a forward before the deadline. If Quick is healthy, no one is stealing the net from that man. He's still the best in the game, as far as I'm concerned.

 

The issues with the Kings are not related to goaltending.. if Budaj and the D could keep the Kings at 5th in goals against and 5th in penalty kill %, the step up with Bishop backing up Quick will not suddenly leapfrog them in to cup contention.

The Kings problem is that they can't put the puck in the net at even strength, or on the PP.

Bishop may have been a good pickup, but he is not what they needed to significantly increase the overall team performance.

 

Exactly, plus only 1 goalie is going to play at a time. So if they get in, and Quick is healthy, Bish is riding the pine. So your big acquisition isn't helping you much, for the run. Budaj for sure could've done the job.
