I completely understand your point and bitterness towards it. I'm not saying that I deserve it because I bought between those dates but that just the luck of the draw. Thats like buying something on sale and then someone else has to pay more the next week because its not on sale anymore. I'm not sure how the whole mortgage interest tax break thing works because this is my first home and I'm only 20 so I don't have many years of knowledge compared to everyone else here but may its because in the gov's eye owning a home is an accomplishment, so it is like a reward to them. But who knows. I also get a tax break because I'm in school and get to write off tuition so thats another thing also.

they give a "tax break" on the interest because the banks are makin so much money, (from teh gov't in loans etc) that its all just in fairness. the taxcode is ridiculous in the us, thats why there has to be a whole agency to figure out what they wrote. the 8k was to just try to get people to buy homes, becaus eno one was buying, There are tons of discounts and tax breaks for everyday shit, but you have to spend a a few hundred $$$ to have a trainerd professional figure it out for you. god bless the US

I agree with some of the other posts. Why loan your money to the feds with no interest. Can someone explain that?

It's not directed at you per se, just the whole system is fucked.

as for intrest, instead of taking the standard deduction, you list things out (intrest, state sales or income tax, real estate taxes, mortage insurance, medical, charity and a few other things) and then that becomes your deduction.

I've always used it as a yearly bonus. I normally get around $1000 back, but with some write offs and the new truck purchase I got more back. If I got that extra $40 per pay period it would not go into any savings vehicle.......it would go towards other worthless things. I already have my 401k, HSA Account, Roth IRA that I pump full every year. Even if I don't get my 1.15 APY its nice to get a larger chunk to use.

Yeah, because Obama is the head of the IRS...

I'm putting what just under 1100 state and federal towards an extended warranty. However I'm going to ride it out a little longer and earn some interest off it first.

Actually, he IS. The IRS falls under the auspices of the Treasury Department. Furthermore, Obama nominated tax cheat Tim Geithner as head of the Treasury Dept. and the democrat controlled Congress, also filled with tax cheats such as Charlie Rangel, confirmed him.

Hopefully your complete fail of a first post is not a foreshadowing of your future here.

This is what I do, sort of.
Being un-married (head of household) with no known children and one job, I can only claim up to 3 on my payroll. I generally still get $300 back from Fed and pay less than $100 ($45 this year) to the State.
So if your pre-planning to pay off the cost of being a US Citizen at the end of the year, keeping your money and investing, it's almost impossible without being married with children.
