I've got a 99 2.7 5 SPD 4x4. Owned in the family between me and my brother since 60k miles, and its been worked hard. Trail ridden, pulled 5000 lbs behind it on more than one occasion. It now has 237500 on it and experienced its first ever problem when the clutch went out on me on i65. The only thing I recommend checking, besides the obvious oil etc is checking the frame for rust. Rusted frames are easily fixable, but time consuming and if you can't weld potentially expensive.

It really does feel I got the best of the Toyota experience.

Keep in mind also, that I never once started the truck in freezing temps and just let it idle to warm up. Always let it run just long enough to scrap the windows and off I went (slowly) until things warmed up.

Oil changes are always at 7000 mile intervals and with traditional oil until 150k when I started using the blended synthetic/dino for high milage.

I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a cross country road trip tomorrow. I trust it that much.

I just hope my future gen 3 will be equally as reliable.

'96 - 4cyl - 275K and still running good. Few fixes and replacements: power steering pump, springs, clutch, various other sensors. Nothing too uncommon I think for a 'middle aged' Taco. It's been driven from NW Ontario (-44F) to the California Coast, over many a mountain and a few deserts (120+F). Everything is stock, no mods.
The only complaint I have is the problem with the intake air temperature sensor causing it not start when the engine is hot, especially when the air temperature is hot too. The same thing has happens to a friends '97 V6 taco as well.

I'm a new member too. I also had a 1985 SR5 red 4x4 5speed! First vehicle that I ever bought new! I should have made some commercials with that truck. The places and things that truck did were amazing to say the least! That truck was completely stock and amazed me. Then I bought a lifted one that was on its last leg and I got rid of it. Then I bought a new 2001 Tacoma 2.7 and it's got 267,500. I've replaced the clutch and timing chain and that's been about it besides brakes. Replaced the water pump when I had timing chain replaced. I had a tree fall on it and damaged the cab, hood and bed! Insurance company totalled it and I bought it from them. I'm gonna keep it forever. If the engine goes, I'll replace it and keep on getting it. I was at the dealer today and was looking at one with a sticker price of $44,000!! Unless I hit the lottery there's no way in the world I'd pay that much money ! I couldn't believe how much they've gone up.

Just traded my first gen in with 414,000KMS on it. Sales manager said he's never driven a tacoma with so many kms on it.
Complimented me on how tight everything was in the truck.

    I assume you're asking me.
I picked up a third gen TRD Sport Manual.
I'm Leasing and then planning on buying out.
What I'll end up paying is more then I negotiated because of the ridiculous financing rates Toyota chages on Tacomas.
If you pull those fees out I paid around $45,500 CAN.

2001 Tacoma - bought it new and still driving it - 254,000 miles on it and counting :)
I have not treated this truck well at all and have had no problems with it - just keep up on the oil changes and they run forever!

"New to me" 98, 203k miles. Anyone have grime in their coolant reservoir? The coolant looks a bit more oily than my other 10 year old newer truck. I'm thinking about doing a compression test. Want to make sure it's not a head gasket leaking oil into the coolant.

1996 single cab beast. I bought this truck from my buddy's dad 9 years ago when it had 180k. It's had 2 clutches a radiator and spark plugs. Aside from that everything on the truck is original.

The super high mileage I see, 400, 500k, 800k, interestingly have all been single cabs.

    Little bit of stuff.
06 4.0 Sport 6spd. 249k miles as of today, still on the original clutch. she got a new frame and leaf springs about 10k ago, and front bearings and an ECGS bushing 100 miles ago, primarily due to lifting her.
