I've done this a few times, but I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home when I feel bad and I have a boss who is a pretty badass/understanding guy. I can essentially run the business from my cell phone and don't need him for anything other than to cut my check once a week. Which works for him since he works for an organization that helps build homes for wounded/special needs veterans and he can spend most of his time doing that and not having to babysit me like he did the last girl.

Shit, at the end of the year and if I have vacation time left, I either take it or they write me a check for unused days. You best believe I'll take that!

No, but atleast It gets me the best possible quarterly raises out of anybody in the entire company.

Also, I cash in my vacation hours when I need to.

Have to save them for the honeymoon rn, though.

You get regular time for using sick time. Just like using vacation.

I've been here 19 years been sent home sick 2 times. I passed out twice and got sent to the hospital in our ambulance and I called out once because I didn't feel like coming back off vacation and stayed an extra day. I have over 1200 hours of sick time. They won't let us turn ours in for pay at the end of the year. We can use 720 hours when we retire to not have to come to work and ride out the last few months. Anything above 720 hours then you lose though.

Wow. My last job I got between 220-240hrs of vacation a year and I almost always lost 200hrs or more because they don't let you carry over or cash it out and we couldn't keep leaders employed long enough for me to take off. Sucked.

Oh, and we don't get any form of bereavement leave. So, somebody dies, you have to either call off, or use vacation. lol.

I've been looking pretty consistently for a different direction. New job, city, house, life....you know.

I had bereavement time of 7 days but they didn't ever want to give it to me and would try to force me to use my PTO. The final straw for me was them not allowing me time off to spend with my family knowing my dad was on life support and had about a day to live and then saying my dad's death wasn't a "pre-planned vacation" and expecting me to work up to and then right after the funeral. I found out after I left that my calls to HR had been intercepted by my boss at the time so I didn't get to tell my side of the story before I left.

It's probably the best thing that ever happened to me though. 11 years and they fucked me like that and now i'm in a lot less stressful job with a badass boss.
