I bought some HID's with the High/low bulb everything worked fine but sometimes either the right or left light doesnt come on. I have to turn the switch on and off to get them back on.
Anyone else having this problem? Im thinking its the ballast.

I've never had an issue like this with my set ups & I'm not even running a relay harness, plugged right into the stock HL plugs.

My first setup with a cheap kit that I took off my Integra. We sold lots of these kits at my old work & most of them failed. I think I was the last one with a working set, mine lasted for 4 years with a few sets of lamps. One of the external starters failed so I replaced the ballasts with some Hella type clones from ebay. Ran those for about a year with no problems & just swapped them out yesterday for a Philips D1 system but only to cut out interference with my CB.

You should check your connections. Power them up directly off the battery & see if you have issues, that way you'll know if your ballasts are good. Also the cheap lamps don't last long either, they start to flicker as they come to end of life. Ever since I switched to Philips lamps I've had long life on lamps.

Actually, I take that back. That's exactly what was happening to my my first set when they started failed.

Left side would sometimes not come on. Turn them off & on & the right side would turn off & the left side would come on. I thought it was my battery since I never replaced it & accessories would run slow. With the new battery it didn't do it as often but eventually got worse. Then I could only get the left side to turn on after I've been driving for a while then turn them off & on. Eventually the left side completely stopped working. It ended up being one of the igniters.

Also with the headlight switch on, when I start the truck, one side would not come on & was random on which side would not turn on. After I got new ballasts (with internal igniters), I never had any of those problems again.

i'm going to chime in my opinion here.
You won't get a reliable quality hid if you're not willing to pay for it. I have bought ddm tuning hids and slim's hids which have both failed me multiple times.

both came with defects when i initially got them...i have taken my hids off from frustration. i would get glitches from one side not working, to high beam on/off glitching (holy shit was that annoying)

and sorry to burst anyone's bubble but the ddm tuning kits are exactly identical to the group buy kits. so if you don't care about the quality, just save yourself a buck and buy ddm.

and if you have a defect, both do not replace the whole kit...they just replace one part...

I agree 100%. I'll probably get flamed for this but IMO anything that is not OEM is not quality. I've heard lots of talk about DDM, Morimotos, etc but all those inexpensive kits are not all that better but they are sold by sellers who warranties them.

I never had a problem with the cheap Hella clones I got from ebay. They worked flawlessly but causes crazy interference with my CB so I ditched them. If it wasn't for that I probably would of kept them. If you want real quality, go with OEM, Philips, Hella, Valeo, Denso, Matsushita, etc. & OEM lamps.

My last setup: Hella clones & Philips 85122CX

My new set up: Philips D1 & Philips 85126+ (no more CB interference)

Got the ballasts & igniters from ebay. The lamps I had sitting for a couple of years, forgot where I got them.

The Philips ballasts are from a Cadliiac XLR, the igniters are made by Valeo & are from a Volvo to allow D2 lamps to be used with a D1 system. The plug in harness I made from a left over relay harness I had (male H4 connectors soldered to the plugs for the ballasts with two ferrite cores on each harness).

Have to throw my 2 cents in as well. coincidently spent Saturday morning messing around with a brand new kit from VVME. Couldn't even get them to turn on, tried everything in the book, install a set on my boss's car two weeks ago and only lasted a week. You do get what you pay for 45-65$ is exactly what it is. Want something nice that is identical to OEM go with Phillips or Osram from Sylvania (these are the only company that make them for BMW,Mini,Audi,Mercedes,Acura I know because Ive worked for all of them) Only problem is these kits are around 300$

so you are saying that oem's are the best, yet you have hella clones? not oem. with that being said, my morimoto d2s projectors had a better spread compared to my old fx35 retro on my wrx. not as wide, but more intensity and better foreground. sometimes oem isn't always the best. the fx-r's are much better than the fx35's. now, a hid projector will always take the cake compared to a halogen projector too. bottom line, you get what you pay for. cheap=cheap

Didn't say anything about what's the best, that would be an opinion. If you read the posts & look at my pics you quoted you will see that I do have OEM ballasts & lamps. I'm a fan of Morimoto projectors too but then again none us here were talking about projectors or headlights.

I agree. My 55w DDM h4s showed up with one bulb fried already. They have a lifetime warrantee however, which is pretty dam cool. I felt compelled to post the lifetime warrantee part because I feel that may appeal to many of retrofitting out headlights....

umm dont know if anyone said this but if you have DLR (daytime running lights) it only allocates a certain amount of power to the lights so thats why only one turns on at least this was the case with my hids i just cut the DLR wire and now both work flawlessly u can google a guide on where to find the wire under the steering wheel

    hope this helps u out
