    Actually I did answer what I call it...just not in the form of a question I guess.

    The simple fact is comparing anything but suspension travel doesn't have any merit when trying to compare vehicle to vehicle because of the variables of non-suspension components. In the industry, yes, wheel travel and suspension travel are used synonymously. Simply because measuring suspension travel eliminates wheel travel variables (backspacing, wheel spacers, tire size, etc.). As you have already experienced with your discussions with various manufactures, when a suspension manufacture lists travel numbers, it's listed such that anyone who does their own math can eliminate the variables and make an accurate comparison. My caution to you in the Overland thread was because you were comparing your wheel travel numbers to the TC travel numbers. It's not like for like.

    As for you problem you mentioned you mentioned on shackle angle/droop...this is why you break down the leaf pack to just the main leaf. With just the main leaf, there's no spring spring retainers and not enough spring rate to hold up the axle other than the main leaf itself. With just the main leaf you can easily see your max droop without forcing extra weight from wheels, tires, or hard rebound. Wheels being attached or not doesn't matter...that's why none of the manufactures you talked to (as well as my first gen build) mention it. As you saw in my first gen build, all my mounts get mocked up with just the main leaf. This is full droop. But once you re-assemble the pack, the likeliness of hitting that with spring retainers and overloads isn't very likely, especially if you are conscious of loads put on a splayed out main leaf. Can you let it droop out this far...sure. But will I...nope.

    For the purposes of my build, any travel numbers I mention are not "wheel travel"...as in measured at the hub. And I never measure from any piece of plastic or even fenders for that matter because body mounts on our trucks suck balls and skew results. Always a static material such as the ground (assuming it's level) or the frame (assuming it's not bent).

    And thanks for screwing up my shopping list. Time to start a new build and nuke this one.

    Have you weighed the truck recently? sorry if I missed it, but was just wondering from the standpoint of GVW. I've seen how much of a "suspension snob" you are and so obviously weight plays a big part in that. but since the payload on the 2nd gen is pretty limited, to begin with, then add armor, the tent, etc, just wondered if you were above GVW or if you even cared about it. I read your stance on aftermarket brakes, and also have read that many people consider the 2nd gen to be underrated by Toyota, though not sure I agree, not that it can't handle it, just that it's a # for the lawyers, and not necessarily underrated.

    I'll be "building" a 2nd gen this summer and really wanna keep it as light as possible while still having proper trail protection.

    Roger that. I know now what to do to make a direct comparison. If I find time, I'll try. I've never seen anyone do it for the Dakar pack.

    Makes sense. I've understood cycling the main spring when measuring for proper bump, but it seems a lot less intuitive when measuring for max droop. I'll relook at this.
