High beams suddenly don't work

Just went to turn on my high beams and neither one of them are working. They worked fine yesterday.

Checked the fuses for the left and right side high beams and they are fine. Also, I can hear the relay clicking when I engage the high beams.

What could be causing this issue? Thanks.

I thought it would be impossible for them to both go out at the same time, but I checked anyway. Bulbs are fine.

 

Actually let me take that back. The bulbs looked fine, but just be sure I just went out and put an old bulb I had laying around in. It works fine!

What could possibly cause both high-beam bulbs to blow at the same time?

 

The headlight bulbs I had in there were a "hyper white" color bulb.

Just got to thinking, and I tried to put LED 194 blubs as my license pate lights, and both of those blew out within a week. What is the deal with my truck and aftermarket bulbs? This happen to anyone else?

 

Ive heard stories that both bulbs go out at the same time, I think they are designed to do that so you change them at the same time? Im not sure...

I remember my old driving school teacher told me she had a car and all of the bulbs would burn out withith a a few days of eachother

 

Today's bulbs are made with strict tolerances, so yeah, blowing around the same time isn't a big deal.

 

Before I got into retrofitting and HIDs I ran aftermarket halogen bulbs. The longest I ever had a set last was about 10 months so this is not surprising.

 

After market, wildcat stuff is crap. Stick with the OEM, makes life much easier, less stressful.

 

What's the possibility that one bulb blew earlier and you just didn't notice it until the other went?

Anyway, they do have a limited life time and as others noted, with stricter manufacturing tolerances the lifetime of two bulbs could match.

IAC, it seems that cold weather takes its toll on the bulbs. After getting our '06 this fall, I decided to replace both headlight bulbs to reduce the possibility that I'd be fumbling with a burned out bulb in freezing temps. I also replaced the low beams in our 'trix as they're on all of the time and we've put on over 40K miles since I last replaced them.

 

This is why when one bulb burns out you should change both because the other one is usually not far behind if they were installed at the same time. It is rare these days that one bulb's lifespan would differ greatly from another.

The bulbs were only in the truck for two weeks though. Seems too coincidental.

 

Well, I hope you didn't pay too much for them. Any sort of variance to a standard halogen bulb is risking life expectancy. I think you need to start looking towards an HID setup if you want that look.
