Its funny how I bought a TRD sport... knowing I'm going to replace all the sport parts, haha. 5100's on all corners, 32" Goodyear MTRs, Mojave Teflons, and No sway bar. Sounds like a good wheeling trip!

any jobs for an enjineer in the area? if so, i know where i'm moving.

i didn't know you were that close to telluride. i've done some back country skiing there before. my favorite place. I've also seen some pictures from a member on here who was doing a trail that overlooked the the base (village) of telluride. i'm jealous of everyone who lives there.

i have a couple of buddies who really like the rmud, but i hate it. i'll usually leave them to play in hte puddles while i hit the trails. there's actually an ok amount of high speed stuff, as well as some more technical sections. we even have a killer kill climb (man made of course, being in florida). when i'm done i usually come back to the mud to find both of my friend's trucks are stuck in the mud and need to be yanked out...go figure. i'll look you up though, sounds like a great area. i've always wanted to make a cross country trip dedicated to wheeling.

I was reading this and figured it's worth a shot! 2 days of mixed driving and I'm hooked! That bar is staying off! Biggest difference is that you feel the bilsteins working better even at 2.5 LOL

I don't live that close to T-ride. I do live that close to Silverton though. As the crow flies, T-ride is only about 20 miles farther than Silverton but Rocky Mountain roads never give you a straight shot. It actually takes about 3 to get to Telluride. It is a fine place to ski though! All of those passes overlook everything. Black Bear Pass is the most difficult of the Silverton-Telluride passes but none of them are too bad for a mildly modified vehicle. Black Bear has some SERIOUS ass pucker sections though. You'll definitely see clips of those cliffhangers if you look it up.

hey guys. i have yet to post on here but i have a question. i was just reading this because i have had my sway bar off for a little under a year. i love the way my truck rides without it. (btw i have an 02 double cab but im guessing its the exact same thing) one problem that i experienced which is pretty major in my opinion is it wore the hell outta my front tires. i just got them last august. they are bfg 33x10.5r15 all terrains. i have a 3 inch lift on the front and my tires are even with my stock fenders. the outside of my tires are worn down like they should be after 30k miles but i have had them for 5k. what i am wondering is if i put some wheel spacers on, will that help to fix the problem? i plan on putting my sway bar back on because i think that is the root of my problem. any ideas will help immensely. thanks.

first i'd get your alignment checked. tire kingdome and merchants do free alignment checks. if that's not the problem, it may be the sway bar. when you turn without one, the whole truck leans further to the outside of the turn than normal which results in more of the trucks weight being over a single tire. in the case of the front tires, when you turn, the weight of the engine is essentially being placed on the outside tire, which could cause it to wear faster.
i'd deffinately say it's worth getting your alignment checked out though

oh, sorry, i missed the wheel spacers thing. unless your tires are wearing because they are severly rubbing on another part of your truck, spacers will not help (the wear issue that is)

did you install UCAs after your 3inch lift? just sounds like you're out of alignment to me

^^^i was thinking about that, but i wasn't sure at what point you needed new UCAs on a 1st gen. but yes, it sounds like an alignment issue.

At what point in modding a truck does this make a difference? I am guessing the sway bar is way more important with the stock SR5 or TRD suspesion. You guys have all stiffened your rides so they can handle this, would a stock user be able to?

I haven't removed mine but yes, it will help even stock trucks. all it is doing is giving you more flex on the front end. Im debating doing it on my stock TRD Offroad just for the small trail riding I do around my property. Still not sure yet tho... I haul ass on these county roads so I would have to be careful not having my swaybar for that. Not neccisarily the hauling ass part... but if a deer jumped out in front of me on a corner even at normal speeds... I think braking and turning without a swaybar could be dangerous.

a stock will be able to remove it and feel a difference. with a softer (stock) front suspension you'll probably just get more body roll when turning than a stiffened front setup. the mod is really for the purpose of having better articulation off road, but IMO it rides well on road as well. it is pretty easy to remove, so if you are thinking abotu removing it, you ccan give it a shot, and if you don't like it, slap it back on the next day.

My main concern is that the offroading I do do is all with a top-heavy load of kayaks on top of my cap. Adding that weight already adds body roll so if a deer jumped out (moron driver is more likely but w/e) I don't want to flip my rig.

^^^ yep, that has a 90* bend on one end and is straight on the other...unfortunately the 2nd gens have a 90* bend on both inds of the link...makes it difficult to create a link that can be easily and quickly undone by hand.

btw, i've been meaning to update the this with some new info on driving without a sway bar. did soem hauling recentliy and some other stuff or that nature. might get to that tomorow night when i have some free time

Really want to do this but the truck is a Daily. I drive 70mph or so on some windy/curved HWY. But as part of the offroad pkg sway bar disconnects.
