I have had several threads merged into this one...

I am the proud owner of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, but I like all Tacomas. When I was 16-17, I took many driving lessons in a 2003 regular cab 2WD automatic owned by my grandpa's friend.

I know for a fact that the automatic limited-slip differential became standard on ALL Tacomas in 2009. I was under the assumption that ALL pre-2009 2WD Tacos (except the S-Runner and X-Runner) had open rear differentials until I was driving home during a snowstorm last January. A green 1996-1998ish extra cab short bed SR5 was stuck on some snow in the middle of the road, and the driver was just flooring it, but the truck wouldn't go anywhere. As I inched by in my own Taco, I noticed that BOTH rear wheels were spinning, which would indicate a limited-slip/posi-traction rear differential.

 

Or a locking rear diff, locked. The TRD has a button you can push that locks the rear diff.

 

My '99 didn't.
I wouldn't have my 4x4 if it did.

 

Most likely the locker.

 

Even with an open though, equal traction allow both tires to spin. (think wet sand on beach) Just if 1 loses all grip TQ. goes to the lost wheel.

ALL trucks should come with limit slip. Most work truck designations used to. Who knows how that one was ordered.

 

2004 Access Cab SR5 Prerunner V6/auto, LOADED, green/beige, PA inspected thru 2/18. I went on the dealer's website and found out it has 130K miles!

The asking price is almost a grand more than what my truck (6 years newer) is worth! $12,590 (down a mere $400 from what they were originally asking). I wouldn't pay more than $10K, and that's if they can provide all service records and prove that it wasn't involved in a wreck. The selling dealer is Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pennsylvania if anyone wants to look at it and see if they can haggle.

KBB Private Party Value in excellent condition is $8,427! Wonder what they're smoking?

The verdict is that this is a beautiful truck, but I wouldn't give the dealer more than $7,500-$8,000 for it. It would cost about $600 alone to put a stereo like the one in my truck now in this one (head unit, backup camera, component speakers), plus probably another $100 for a pair of speakers for the back... I hate caps, so I'd just take that off and sell it on TW...

 

Also, this brand new 2017 Corolla iM has been on the lot at the same dealer (Thompson) since at least November 2016. It's a 6-speed stick, and while that's the only reason I'd buy it, it's sadly probably the same reason it's been languishing on the lot for about 3 months. A coworker at Puck recently got a same color 2017 Corolla iM at 0% financing at the same dealer, but it's an automatic with stock wheels, not the orange "Hot Wheels" and body kit seen on this one that add like $2,500 to the sticker price.

I talked to a dealer 2 weeks ago about what the prices on 1st gens are going for. He said they got a 2001 tacoma 3.4l 2wd on a trade in. It only had like 30 or 40k miles on it. This was about 8 months ago when they got it. The sold it for 14,000 something almost 15.

 

That's what my dad paid for the 2010 NEW back in September 2009! 6 miles on it when we first saw it, and the mileage when the title was issued was 20.

 

Its insane that someone actually paid that much for a 2001 2wd.

130k... walk away fast, and laugh at them in the process. PreRunner is not worth that much. even 4wd you can haggle that price. It lists stock descriptions, nothing about the actual truck

 

Eh, they're worth what anybody will pay for it. That's not too far out of line from what I've seen, even for a PreRunner.

And this is PA, one of salt central's prime locations. the body can be great, but the frame can be shit.

 

The dealer told me iw was kept in a garage its whole life. He said it was basically still brand new. No paint fade and not a single scratch according to him. Also that the frame still looked brand new besides some dust from sitting

 

Forget that noise. If you got that kin of money to blow come down to VA and theres plety of guys on CL that will rob you for less! Lol there insane.

 

Tacoma factor.

My market value is super high, so when my truck ($24,800 new in 2013) got totaled a month ago, it was market valued at $24,400 4 years and 58k miles later. I got a check for $29,816 for it, which paid for the entire truck and all of the insurance I've paid on it since I bought it in 2013.

So, in the end, I basically drove it for cost of gas and registration.

 

My local dealer has an 02 double cab. 170k miles for about 11,500. Yeah. they still have it. I don't know if anyone around here will buy it. Looks in good shape but no maintenance history, etc. All stock.
