just thinking about potentially switching to a pelfreybilt steel with full hoops. I like the way it looks, and unlike all pro I hear good things about it. So should I stick with the ARB or go pelfreybilt? Ive also heard that ARB is the strongest bumper made for the tacoma

I'm a big fan of Pelfreybuilt but I think ARB is the only bumper that'll work with airbags.

If you're geared towards safety, I'd say ARB.

If you're geared towards offroad, Pelfrey.

I believe the airbags deploy due to inertia changes in sudden deceleration rates. So they should work with any bumper. I believe the ARB is designed to use the crumple zones in the bumper mount/frame horns.

Yes, airbags deploy from inertia changes. I believe the sensors are built into the frame.? Pelfreybilt gets my vote of the two. Arb is massive and bulky IMO. But bruteforce fab gets my money all day.

The ARB bumper that i am familiar with is comprised of two components - the mounting subframe, and the bumper itself. The subframe has 'crush-cans' built into the bracketry, that deform and compress by design in an accident. "Airbag compliant" means the bumper is properly notched to provide clearance around the impact sensors mounted on the lower grille, giving them critical milliseconds of time to sense inertial deceleration forces and deploy the airbags.

Like someone said above, the ARB bumper is engineered with crumple zones to make it airbag compliant and it is also the only "offroad"bumper that is DOT approved.

That said, Pelfrey has better arrival angles and is definitely a better looking bumper IMO.....the ARB is quite large. I would also prefer the ARB if they just had a standard sized hole for fogs (Rigid/Baja Designs) rather than having to use the ARB fogs for the finished look.

I'll likely be going Pelfrey when the time comes.
