?? New bearing. Maybe they're trying to separate from a / the hub assembly..? I've not had it apart before, so, not sure how the pieces go together. Maybe that's why the 2WD Prerunner fronts are so expensive because it's the hub and bearing combined..??

They'll either find the tool or reuse the previous assembly... (Just was trying to simplify and get new bearings at the same time, the trucks got 80+K...)

Where did you get your new bearings from? Do you have a link? Did you get them from Bama or NJ? If they are just plain bearings, then yes, they'll need a press and a bearing splitter to separate the bearing from the hub, then another tool for the nut that holds it all together. If you have more time, and you bought incomplete bearing units, return them and purchase complete units from @BamaToy1997 or @nj636 . You can find their threads in the 2nd gen FS section of the forum.

    best wheel bearings around! www.marionbumper2bumper.com

When you go to the store and tell them you want a replacement wheel bearing for a Toyota, they will have it listed as a "Wheel bearing assembly" but in reality all you get is the bearing itself. (see below photo)

When you have just the bearing you have to remove your old assembly, and get the hub pressed out because in a typical repair shop, like Toyota dealerships or aftermarket shops, they would reuse the original hub. (see below photo)

The process requires a good 20 ton press, and some special die tools to do the job correctly. Many times a shop will get in a hurry and not use the correct die, or process, and the bearing will be a quick failure down the road. This also typically will cost you between $40 and $60 each to have done. So now you are in for the $80 or more on the bearing, $8 for the seal that needs to be replaced, and $40-$60 for press work. Total for this is $128-$148 each, and will pretty much take up your ENTIRE day to get this done. (remove assemblies, get a ride to a shop, wait on shop, drive home, reinstall)

Now take a look at my website. You can buy a complete bolt on assembly that is manufactured from the BEST bearing on the market, and is ready to bolt in! It takes typically 30-45 minutes per side to replace them! So within 2 hours you can be back on the road. The best part is these assemblies are $175 each for the 4X4 and $275 each for the 4X2! The 4X2 assemblies are more expensive because the hub itself is a factory direct Toyota part, and also comes with a locking nut. (see photos below to see exactly how they arrive, ready to install)

    4X2 assembly:

    4X4 assemblies:

So that is the breakdown on the front bearings!
