Gray wire mod-2011 taco?

Sorry if the answer has already been posted, but I was wondering if the gray wire mod will work on a 2011 Tacoma?

 

I'm not aware of any gray wire mod. Does this give the truck aquatic powers? I know the yellow wire mod is good for traction on ground.

 

I heard about the grey wire mod having to do with having your rear locker instead of running at only 5 mph, it makes it full time

 

You can yes the ocker going as fast as you want, however you must be going less than 5mph to engage it. Not really a bad thing for life of the parts.

The mod makes it so that you can engage the locker on while in 2hi and 4hi rather than just in 4lo.

The Gray wire MOD in its simplicity refers to 1st gen 4x TRD's which allows you to engage the E locker in any range, a simple 10 min. procedure, takes longer to round up the tools than to do the MOD, stupid simple, the MOD for 2nd gens tho'..... holy shit !!

Has anyone else tried this mod? Also, it was unclear wether or not the locker light stayed on like many of the gray wire mods listed for Gen one Tacomas. Are there any other write ups like this one that confirm it works ON GEN 2 TACOMA? Are multiple Tacomas known as Tacoma?

 

Interesting... also does the ECU still prevent it from being engaged over 5mph, or would this disable that feature as well?

I don't think it ever actually limits your speed NovaGTS, TOYOTA recommends not going faster than 5mph, and it's supposed to only opporate in 4L so that alone limits your speed to a degree.

 

Wow! Absolutely fantastic Norton! Thanks for the link! Planning on doing this soon on my 14, hopefully they didn't change to much in the wiring. I am very mechanically inclined, but I definitely learn things a little differently than most, and the previous links were leaving me a bit worried, that link was just the ticket Norton! And thanks to JSI for the whole write up.

 

BTW, that link in JSI's post for the Amazon relay wasn't good, does anyone have a link to the correct relay that he used?

 

I had no problem when I installed the mod on my 2013. Take your time, confirm wire colors before splicing/cutting, and I'm pretty sure your experience will be similar.

It's been a while since I bought mine (via eBay), but I'll see if I can find any details on the purchase. IIRC, however, just about any DPDT 12V/10A relay should work. (Frankly, I don't think the 10A rating is as important as DPDT and 12V.)
