Good point man, I remember the import tax for Canada was around 11.8% a few years back off the item's worth. I wouldn't be surprised if its more than that for AUD.

Heard Rausch Creek can be kind of gnarly without full armor. And I want to go so...

Just hope the open/open diffs don't screw me too bad. That'll probably be the next project.

I wonder what those run? I've been debating this route or adding a secondary tank in the spare tire position. .....

$450 total, so $225 per person. Plus the salesperson said they'd give a little more discount for ordering two.

Going with Mobtown Offroad. Slider group buy is going on, and I figured I might as well snag the matching skids and rear bumper. High clearance of course. :sawzall:

Honestly, and I'm just going by pictures so don't kill me here, Mobtown's stuff looks super beefy compared to SOS. And I saw nothing but praise for Mobtown's sliders. I didn't see anything bad about SOS, but I also didn't come across a lot of people openly and actively making a point to say how good they were either. I've been in sales and retail a long time, and that's one thing that usually sticks out to me as far as quality goes.

Kind of like a steak. You can have a decent steak at a restaurant and be fully satisfied, no complaints. Or, you can have THE BEST STEAK EVER and tell your friends and family all about it every time the word steak is mentioned, and half the time it's not.

I was just curious I'm looking at ordering some sos skids As Mobtown refuses along with some other manufacturers to even discuss skids for a 4cyl they have lost my business. Most of the vendors on here are lame AF and I don't care to deal with most of them. Pelfrey and SOS were about the only 2 who would even either discuss it, inform me of alterations which would need to be made, or at least call me back. Mobtown was my first call as I prefer to keep my business as local as possible but they pretty much slammed the door in my face so chances are if they make the best of anything they'll not get my money for anything. I was prepared to buy additional things from them but no more. Through my years of customer service work and having to try and meet their needs I would have done what I could to work with the potential customer to make an initial sale hoping that my service led to additional sales. I sincerely hope your purchases are exactly what your wanting and you receive a good, quality product. Sorry for the rant this whole thing has been very frustrating

I can understand that. I can also maybe provide some insight from the other side of the sales counter too, and say that sometimes the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Now I obviously can't speak for them, or do I know how the situation played out or was handled, but if they're running at capacity for the products they already offer, it might just not be worth it to them. I'm the type of guy that hates to tell a customer no. After all, if it wasn't for them, I'd have no job. But sometimes it has to be done.

For example, just today, I had an instance of this situation. In addition to trailers, we also sell flatbeds. Hauler type beds, with storage boxes, goose neck hitches, all that kind of stuff. Well, this guy wanted one that would dump as well. First off, there was the safety aspect. No way. Imagine if he was hauling a 40' trailer with 18,000 pounds of equipment on it. Or a horse trailer with 6 horses in it. Then, the latch that holds the dump down somehow failed. I wouldn't want to see that mess at 75 mph on 95.

Second, he was asking if we could fabricate some sort of extra safety mechanism that would prevent that. So let's take the safety thing out of the equation. I'm sure it could be done. Here's the problem. I have one tech in the shop. Just like I'm the only salesman at the dealership. We crank out $7K or so in service work a month. That's a lot for one guy. He hustles. Just like I sent over $300K in trailers out the door this month. I hustle. Yes, we run like a sweatshop full of children. Corporate life at it's finest. Point is, neither he or I have the time to take on this one-off kind of project. Parts would have to be sourced, stuff would have to be fabricated, countless man hours would have to be put into this, etc. It would end up probably costing the company money in the end, as there's no way we'd be able to properly charge what it would probably end up costing. The juice would not be worth the squeeze.

Again, not saying this even applies to your situation. Just hopefully adding some insight to it. It's taken me a long time to understand that sometimes, you do in fact just have to say no. In this case, I was able to explain that all to the guy, and actually he was quite understanding about it all, because I properly communicated it to him. Which is also a skill that some people just don't have. Not that it makes them any less of a person, but sometimes they come off unintentionally speaking the wrong way.

Just my two cents. But again, I also understand the frustrations. I've been on both sides of it myself.

I can understand that other than I'm never allowed the option of saying no. We or the customer needs this make it happen and quickly. It's just frustrating and actually mind boggling to me as many 2.7's as there are out there that there's not a demand for this product. Hell if I had access to a break I'd just make them my self

Yeah, and I'm sure that's frustrating sometimes if you really feel that no is the right answer. And sometimes it is, as much as it sucks to say.

And I'm going to go out on a limb and say that even though there's a ton of 4 cylinders out there, there's a ton of V6 trucks too for not much more money. I know that was a decision for me when I decided to give up on my search for a fullsize Chevy and start looking at Tacomas. Because I knew I'd be putting on bigger tires for offroading. Main intention was the beach obviously, pulling my pop-up (and bass boat). But I also like offroading in the mountains. So I knew I'd eventually start adding armor because trees and rocks fight back. And I didn't want to add re-gearing into my mod list as a necessity instead of a possible want later down the road. So I knew I wanted a V6 and I preferred a 6MT.

I think the majority of 4 banger buyers just want a 4wd truck just in case they need it. Not for adding hundreds of pounds of stuff to and hitting trails they might need some protection on their truck's private parts.

I agree with that. I am probably an exception to the norm. I wanted the added challenge and have always loved the toyota 4 cyl.(I have them in 3 vehicles currently) Honestly when I bought it I had never heard of TW or knew anything about the tacoma and off roading the last vehicle I off roaded was my cj7. The truck is already fairly armored I just need skids.

Toyota is definitely famous for their 4 cylinders. I know it probably won't help now, but when I get my skids I'm sure we could find time to get together and put them under your truck to see if they'd even be close to working with a little modification.
