Ahh... ok I knew I had inconsistencies...

Yeah... I was just in my basement and forgot to include the almost 200sq ft I have in my wood room..it's 24x8 and I poured it a little thicker...so your numbers make sense.

For the slab ? Yes

 

Yeah...we normally don't do that here...except doorways and garage doors.

 

Are you asking if we pour the whole slab at once ? If so yes , but maybe I'm not understanding your question

 

Look up what it means. It's just where it goes over your initial slab to carry a load. It's basically just blending the two pours. I am actually not being sarcastic in this statement.

 

Its when you pour the walls and footings together as far as how that term has always been used here but I assumed you were asking me something else , my bad

The slab in this house is fully captured by the foundation walls , top of slab is top of wall

 

Yup...so it's not monolithic. I was just curious. You guys do stuff different than we do here. I also thought it might be needed for seismic code.

 

So , now I'm curious , the foundation walls are already all there , so how at this point would you pour a monolithic slab pour and how would that be beneficial for the seismic restraint ?

 

You pour the slab over the footings. There would be re-bar sticking up a few inches. Now your slab is tied to your footing...should be stronger.

No , the slab is non load bearing , all the framing and seismic connections are at the foundation walls

 

It can't be racked and has weight of slab on it at all times.

 

Yup...we do that too. My garage that I am adding to my house will be monolithic with a 4' frost footer. All my doorways and my basement garage are also monolithic already. It's a great insurance

 

If we get an earthquake that is going to rack this foundation with a max wall height of 5' and 5/8" redi rod at 18" OC drilled and grouted 20" into solid bedrock , it won't really matter anymore

 

Fair enough....lol... we don't even have seismic activity here yet ....but they did find huge amounts of gas here. So the companies are already drilling we will see what happens.

 

This happened in OK after they started fracking. You should be concerned, especially cause our new EPA director was AG of Oklahoma and protected the oil and gas companies while this was happening
I live in a block house and am very concerned lol

 

They've been fracking all over Texas for years now. Some people have flammable well water.
