I have never owned a street bike, but I have always wanted to try one.

Recently I acquired one from a guy I work with, I know the bike ran last time I saw it, he would drive it back and forth from Rocklin to Marysville.

Long story short, I am trying to UN jerry rig some BS that has been done to the bike. But currently I am not getting any power to the bike. Charged the battery, still no power. Checked all the fuses including the main harness fuse, nothing. Checked the ground, nothing. Hooked the bike up to my truck, still nothing. Short of buying a multimeter and figuring out how to trace the wires down, I am hoping there are some motorcycle guys locally who could shed some light or possibly lend a hand? Ill buy food, lunch, owe you wrench time, whatever, Id just like to get the bike running at least, figure out if it will be worth the hassle or money to get it back on the road safely. If so, I will likely haul it to a shop somewhere and have them to a good check over the bike as well. Just would like to know the bike at least starts and runs fine before I pay shop labor to find out it isn't worth it.

2004 CBR600 RR. The last time I saw the bike was May last year, then I deployed and hadn't seen it since. My friend got orders to PCS and well lets just say with the price, no one here would have passed on it ;)

    Too much to list.
Unfortunately I'm not too "Local" to you. But I know the Honda CBR line inside and out (Wife owned a 2004 CBR600RR that I rebuilt, Now owns a 09 600RR, and I have an 05 1000RR). If you're willing to haul it to San Jose, I'm more than happy to help ya.

About a 2 hour drive, but with your CBR knowledge, would probably EASILY be worth it

I may take you up on this offer man. I have built ATVS and cars (motors and all), just like having a set of experienced eyes around. I just checked every plug I could get to, unplugged and replugged them, still nothing. I do know that on the front sub harness, a weird box, which with some parts diagrams I found that it is the bank sensor, the plug on the sub harness side is all mangled and isn't plugged in. Not sure if this would cut all power to the bike, but possibly? Also I found 2 wires coming out of the kill switch not plugged into anything. Not sure if this could be the culprit, but obviously they're supposed to go somewhere.

I really hate fixing other peoples crap, makes it so much more difficult.

Take both seats off, especially the back seat, check all the connections on there. Alot of guys will install a power commander and a tucked up aftermarket license plate holder and it can play hell on the electrical system if its not wired right and shorting the system out

Right now I am actually still trying to find the lock cylinder for that rear tail cover so I can remove that piece and look around in there. It has a "race tail" section which doesnt have the lock behind the main seat and it isn't under the seat on the left side either. Im still searching for that at the moment

I checked the harness side plug that goes to the ignition switch, no power at any 3 wires, the diagrams I have found show the pink wire to be the main power, but theres nothing. Battery is showing 12.7 volts, main fuse and other fuses are fine.

Start tracing the wiring I guess and see if it's cut/split/kinked anywhere lol.

Messing with it more I found the culprit. The Starter magnet switch, the black relay looking block behind the battery wasn't letting power out of the other end. I also connected the bank sensor and made sure it was upright after discovering what it was and did through the manual and diagrams.

Pulled the gas tank, drained the old fuel, fresh 91 octane, by passed that switch with a 30 amp fuse, she starts right up.

But after you rev the bike some and the rpms are getting back to idle, i hear what I think is the timing chain? Im not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure its from the bottom end :(

    13k on the bike btw

Technically, you're right. It's the Cam Chain. Very common issue on the Honda. You should consider replacing the adjuster with a manual one.

Apologies for the delay in replying. Been super busy breaking my 4Runner and fixing my Tacoma. LOL Glad you found the problem. And Yes, The bank angle sensor, does what you assume it does. Shuts down the engine if over x*'s of lean (damn near 90* though). And yeah, the black relay you speak of, is the Main starter relay.

If you have any more problems, feel free to ping me on here.

    No worries man.

Well I ordered that main starter relay, pulled the home made 30amp fuse wire I put in the main harness plug to the battery to get it running, and plugged it all back in like factory, turn the key, still nothing.

Well by hooking up the bike, getting it to start, run, and drive, I eliminated a few things. The battery is fine, battery ground is fine, rectifier is fine, and fuses are good.

So now either this "new" starter magnetic switch is also bad or idk what it could be now. The battery tender still shows that battery is good and charged. So now I am clueless

Also side note, When the bike was running it kept blowing the gauge cluster fuse, I'm not sure why on that either.

Most assuredly there is some damaged wiring some place. It is also possible that one of the wires in the socket of said relays, could have backed out and is not making contact.

My offer still stands. If you'd wish to transport it down to San Jose, I'm down to help you out with it.
