I've tried to do a search for something along these lines in the forums several times, but I can't seem to find anything. Maybe I'm not using the right search terms, because surely I can't be the only one looking to open those side windows. I have dogs I must keep happy back there, you know!! I look at my ol' man's 1st gen, and wonder why on earth mine don't open as well. All that comes up when I do a web search are wind deflectors.

Do these open on certain stock Tacomas, and I just got one that somehow didn't have this option, or is there some kit out there that I simply can't find that will help me accomplish this?

    Thanks guys!

AFAIK rear side windows on all Tacoma extended cabs since 2005 are fixed, and am not aware of any after market products.

    What he said. ^^^

I really want this option too. I think there was someone that offered some sort of modified rear glass assembly that was removable, but I can't find it just now. I discounted that solution because what I really want is for the windows to flip open like the 1st Gens. That way you could have the driver's window down and not be buffeted by the wind, without having to open the rear slider, which blows in rain or whatever crap happens to be in the bed. ...and yes, my dog would appreciate it too :)

There was a company who did this for the FJC and was in the design phase for the access cab Tacoma when they went under. They even had the tab on their website for the access cab Tacoma. Freedom windows might be the company?

Well, poop. I did find some info on Freedom Windows (thanks Boogyman!) and they do just what I was looking for, but it appears to be only for FJ Cruisers. I think I'll send them an email and see if they might be doing Tacomas in the future, but I'm not holding out much hope there. I guess I'll keep an eye out in the hopes that some clever soul here in the forums maybe decides to take a stab at it. How hard could it be?

I'd get someone to cut some plexi to fit and source some latches. Maybe just get a latch kit from them and make the rest yourself

It sure seems like it should be so easy. But that link in my last post goes through the process of install on an FJ, and it looks a bit more complicated than that. Anyway, I'll hope to hear back from the Freedom Window people and see what they think. Jeez, this would be an awesome mod.

My dog would greatly appreciate it now that he can't stick his head out the back window with the topper on

Yeah, that's the one. They look way better than I remembered. Hopefully they didn't give up on the Tacoma version. Please let us know what you hear from them.

I figured I'd ping to them too ...maybe a little extra encouragement. Dave answered me almost immediately and...

"Sorry, we are not going to produce them"

    Dammit!!! :(

I too would love movable glass back there. Remember seeing some one on here using magnets to attach the window allowing to remove the whole pane. But a latch system would be perfect.

I don't even have the rear slider. I really wish the windows flipped open.

I just read part of that thread again the other day, using plexiglass was one of the reasons I think folks weren't as interested in them.

Yeah, fuck plexi. My dog rides up front anyway. If someone wants a ride, they can sit in the bed.

This was the ONLY factor going against my purchase of the AC. My dog loved sticking her head out in my old SUV, lol.
