Mind me asking how often you trade in vehicles? Just curious, that's a lot of vehicles...

    I'm 48 and on my 5th vehicle..

Maybe it's just me but If I hated my truck as bad as some act like they do it would have to go. I would just have to eat the loss an get something else. Coming here daily and constantly bashing their truck cures nothing. It does get tiresome that some people think you want to hear their bashing daily. Life's to short move on.

It seems like the consumer report hasn't hurt resale value on the 2016 Tacoma at all.

    http://www.rohrichtoyota.com/used/Toyota/2016-Toyota-Tacoma-9e3d507c0a0e0a1725c5dc9229d2f5ba.htm

Here is a 2016 TRD off road with 8k miles selling for $34,200 and it does not have the premium and tech package. Comes with the same configurations as my truck which I paid $34,830 it stickered for $36,742.

I'm sure you can haggle that price down another 2 grand but for what this truck is listing for you can get a brand new 2017 for the same price or even better deal with no miles.

I guess Toyota dealerships must think really highly of tacoma's still.

New Tacoma sales have been weak these first two months of the year with -0.5 dip from last year so maybe the CR report is hurting the sales but not the resale value yet.

So let me get this straight...
Consumer reports. A non profit company that employs over 1000 reviewers and employees that's sole purpose is to give honest data driven reviews and recorded over 7 million subscribers not to mention is responsible for acting in the public best interest and has been sued for bad reviews literally over a dozen times but never lost a case; has some sort of grudge against the Tacoma and is wrong in their reviews?!

I do my own consumer report. I don't need consumer report to tell me if my truck is satisfactory or not. I am 95 percent happy overall and thats pretty good and ok by me.

Kbb values are always over optimistic.

    https://www.kbb.com/toyota/tacoma-d...mileage=18742&pricetype=retail&condition=good
They claim a 2016 TRD off road auto trans with no premium and tech package with 18k miles fair market value is $34,716!
Thats only $114 less than what I paid for my 2017 with the same options.
    http://www.cavatoyota.com/vehicle-d...oma-trd-off-road-near-fairmont-wv-id-16984358

Here is another 2016 TRD off road auto trans without the tech package selling for $32,990 with 16k miles at my local dealership. Car gurus claims the fair market value is $34,900 so this dealer is selling it $2k below book value.

Of course if you trade your vehicle in at a dealership you are going to get low balled big time. They are going to offer you $4-5k below the true fair market value because they want to make a killing off your trade. That's why you have to sell your vehicle privately and list it for what dealerships in your area are asking for with the same mileage then let the buyer haggle you down from that price.

    I paid $18k for my 2008 in 2011, I traded it for $16k in 2011. I paid $22k for my 2011 in 2013, I traded it for $21.5k in 2014. I paid $32.5k for my 2015 and traded it for $31k in in 2016.

These trucks hold their value. Trading is beneficial for a lot of people especially in states where you get a tax credit, you just have to be able to not accept the dealer's always bullshit offer.

I don't believe resale will suffer.
First if all it's a truck and trucks always command higher resale and hold values longer. Second although my opinion is bias it still has a Toyota badge.
I think initial sales may suffer once this gets circulated but relax guys you probably won't get upside down in your third gen.

KBB is a industry standard in appraising the monetary value of a used vehicle, whether or not the Dealer, private owner/seller or Insurance company use it :notsure: most use the KBB as the benchmark for pricing a used vehicle because of its trusted reputation. If KBB didn't exist what we would use to appropriately price a used vehicle,at any extent a dealer, private seller can price their used vehicles anyway they want, KBB is used as a tool to keep pricing honest and realistic. If KBB prices your vehicle at $35K and you sell it for $36k its all legalhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelley_Blue_Book

I work there part time, once a week as a block clerk. I see all kinds of cars and what they fetch at auction.

Sorry, gave up on CR in regards to cars and trucks a long long time ago!

Here's what they have for the 17 which isn't any different than '16. "Tough as nails"! Maybe an overstatement but here's the rest.

    Overview
The Tacoma remains as rough and tumble as it has always been. Toyota's compact pickup features a 3.5-liter V6 hooked up to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. A 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, which can be mated to a five-speed manual, is also available. Both two- and four-wheel-drive models are offered. Our four-wheel-drive V6 Tacoma delivered a good 19 mpg overall. Though the truck is tough as nails and delivers impressive off-road prowess, it's primitive. The ride is stiff, handling is ponderous, the cabin is very loud, and the driving position is awkwardly low. The modern connectivity features are welcome. Safety features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available. First-year reliability of the redesign has been well below average.

    Highs
Fuel economy, resale value, reliability, off-road capability.

    Lows
Ride, handling, braking, noise, driving position.

I think my dad just went off of wholesale prices ...whatever they were fetching at auction. Half the time the shit he took on trade they would sell off auction

I remember the day fondly unloading that lemon into Japanese built quality. What a difference power seats and an engine and trans combo that actually works!
