Yes. What these trucks are selling for in my area and what I paid for mine. The depreciation is pretty flat.
There is a 2015 TRD sport double cab auto trans 4x4 with 30k miles selling for $31k. These trucks only lose about $1k in value every year. That's less than $100 a month in depreciation. You get to own a vehicle and it only cost you under $100 a month to drive it. That's pretty awesome. I'm a Tacoma owner for life now due to the resale value.

Looks like the 3rd gen's still have great resale value even with some of the negativity it has received from the press and auto critics.

I stopped with CR after they doomed the Suzuki samurai. I had one in high school and with limited mods did everything.

This is why I cancelled my subscription to CR. Ever since the new regime took over at CR they have gone down hill fast !!! Used to be the bible on a lot of useful info, not any more.

The lows don't bother me at all. I came off leasing a 2014 Scion tC which had a stiffer ride than this truck and the road noise was 10x worse. The driving position in this truck is like sitting up high in comparison due to how low to the ground that car was. It was a manual so I had no issues with the transmission.

I didn't hate the tC but I did want something bigger and more practical that's why I returned the lease and bought this truck. All the negativity about these trucks on this forum makes me think my Tacoma is a ticking time bomb ready to explode and I'm going to wish I bought out the lease on my Scion instead of buying this truck.
I haven't experienced any issues yet and I have close to 7k miles on the truck now. I have a 15 mile commute to work each way and I enjoy driving the truck everyday. I hope I'll continue to love it and no issues occur.

I went to my local dealer to see if they had a pro model to look at, didn't, and a sales mgr walks up and asks what I'm looking for. Told him I was only interested in a 15 model as an upgrade. He asked why I didn't want a new one, after I mentioned the transmission, rear diff, lack of power at less than full throtle etc, he then said I've done my homework. I said yep, unless there's any major changes in 18, I'll stick with what I have, or a 15 model.

edit: Forgot to mention, after he found out they didn't have a 15 model to check out, he wasn't interested and walked away.

Wow a dealer agreeing or saying whatever they need to, to make a sale/customer, imagine that...

I went to see my doctor about a bad case of insomnia. He said my case of insomnia was related to stress, alleviating the stress should alleviate the insomnia. Stress causes insomnia by making it difficult to fall asleep and to stay asleep, and by affecting the quality of your sleep. He asked me if by chance I drove a 3rd gen tacoma with the automatic transmission. When I said yes he assured me if I traded it for a manual my insomnia would go away. I got my new manual tacoma Tuesday and have slept like a baby since.

Just wondering if your manual gets hard to shift like some have stated will your insomnia come back. Did he inform you of that if not change doctors.

    Thanks for posting this.

The SAME 3rd Gen owners (you know who they are) are always posting negative crybaby stuff. Sell your truck and move on. 2nd Gen people, get a life, stop getting so excited when the same 3rd Gen haters post a link. We know you want a new truck. "Blah blah blah my 2nd Gen is the best gen, I don't want a turd gen, blah blah blah".

That or the inevitable pedal squeak that plagued the 2nd gen manuals too.

The irony of it all. In this review/comparison they point out how nice the ride quality and driving comfort is.

The dealership I purchased my truck from in southeast PA used kbb instant cash offer to value my lease to see if I had any equity that can be used towards the purchase. The sheet they gave me said it was in fair condition and the trade in value was at the lower end of the range. I think the range was $9,200-12,200 and the kbb instant cash offer quoted $9600.
Some dealers use the Kelley blue book instant cash offer in my region.

My cousin lives in Atlanta and his dealership used NADA trade values to appraise his trade in.

I guess which book the dealer uses varies by region.

It seems black book and Kelley blue book caters to the dealerships.
NADA retail values caters to banks to determine the loan to value of the vehicle they want to finance.
Edmunds has its own appraisal system but haven't seen a dealership that uses that yet.
