To be serious, I keep a bin with straps and 2 come-alongs, chain, spray lube, axe and machete, shovel, farm jack, and a board for the farm jack. I also have a flashlight and knife, some hose clamps of various sizes, zip ties and tape. Basic and always useful!

20170219_211912.jpg I work off a redundancy system. I always have a bag wherever I go, with my 'essentials'. Clothes, food, water filter, fire kit, med kit, hygiene kit, compass, flashlight, headlamp, stove, fuel, knife sharpener, spare knife, cordage, pistol, mags, micro gun cleaning kit etc etc.

Separately in/on the truck: Flares, med kit, jumper cables, rotopax 4gal fuel can, cb radio, snatch strap, hatchet, cordage, spare fluids, tools, etc etc. Also maps, snacks, headlamp and batteries, flashlight, compass, fire kit, water filter, shit paper and paper towels, tarp, bivvy, noaa radio, long gun and kit.

If I forget my bag or something, I don't stress- I know I've got a full kit in the truck. If I'm stranded somewhere, I'll just leave extra shit behind.

Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

Edited to add: I went through my bag the other night to switch out some seasonal clothes. everything pictured and my bag is still sub 25lbs

Plattform step.jpg I keep this in the bed as a work platform for washing and waxing and as a bench to sit on when I use the tailgate as a table to eat off of. Seats 2 and it's just the right height for me. There's no eating in my truck, (for now):) Home Depot

Im an eagle scout and one of the things that was drilled into my mind was to always "be prepared". So I keep a lot of stuff mentioned in the truck.

    Tow straps
    Fire extinguisher
    Flares
    First aid kit
    Jumper cables
    Work gloves
    Bungies, ratchet straps, & rope
    Electrical and Duct tape
Tool set with metric and us
12v vacuum (for the dog fur)
    Flashlight, headlamp, glowsticks.
    Snow scraper
    Fleece blanket
    Stocking hat and gloves
    Trench shovel
    Hatchet
    Small sledge Hammer
    Multi tool and buck knife
    Hand chainsaw tool
    Trailer lock/pin/hitches with 2" and 1 7/8" ball
    Cargo net
    Tarp
    Lighter
    Poncho
    Zip ties
    Roadmap and compass
    Pen and paper
    Medication (I'm diabetic)
    Snacks and drinks
    Sunglasses
    Kleenex, Paper towels and TP

I also usually have a toolbox for work that has masking tape, blow torch, box cutters

    I didn't see listed but I have
reflective vest (like the road crews wear) if your stranded on the side at night
a couple old towels (the answer is 42 btw).
    JB weld and superglue

Its also a good idea to keep some things in a backpack for those of us that take our pets along, like doody bags, leashes, food, and bowls for water. I also have a waterproof seat cover for him as well that I can use if I need to lay on the ground.

The things on my list to get are

Highlift jack - I like the yellow responder one
Maybe a couple lengths of chain
Traction mats or the strap-on grippers
    Kitty litter
    Small air compressor
    Fuses
    Hand crank weather radio
    Small power drill.

FML, Just did a big job for Werner (their headquarters is just down the road).

They got a trade show going on this weekend in Chicago I think.

Ill have to see if they'll give me one, but they have one that will link together to make a longer platform.

I also have 2 packs of baby wipes and hand sanitizer to clean up my hands and face if needed and at least 2 rolls of tp.. 2 ply at least... that 1 ply stuff is John Wayne TP, doesn't take shit from anyone

In the rear underseat storage i have the factory bottle jack, wrench and spare tire stuff, extra lug nuts(the only fit the spare steelie rim) home made fire starters (Wax, dryer lint, saw dust with hemp wicks. once they light the burn great)

On the side of that storage bed is a fire extinguisher and hatchet which i need to re handle soon.
If im out in the mountains camping or just offroading ill have food, water, guns, extra flashlight/headlamp, tp

A 250cc dirt bike and some extra gas. It goes where trucks can't and acts as an escape pod if the diff explodes in the parking lot of a "bad" mall.
