I've got the auto. No problems and don't know of anyone unsatisfied with it.

I have a 2016 TRD Sport DCSB 4x4 auto and I've had zero issues with my truck.

Learn to use the ECT button on your test drive of the automatic. By default they are setup for good fuel economy.

Then try out a manual transmission. I freaking love mine, and I've not driven a stick in many years now. This is just a really fun truck to drive and my TRD Sport handles on the twisties really nice. My drive home is 14 miles of twisty canyon. The more I drive it, the more I love my choice of the 6MT.

    Good luck!

Nothing wrong with the auto either just curious if you are down shifting any while driving through the canyon. If you are downshifting then you are having to work the auto does that for you.

Throw in a free window tint and you have yourself a DEAL!

I showed my truck to the guys at work and their first question was "why the hell would you get a stick shift?!". My response "...because that's what I wanted?"

I never said it doesn't exist, I said I don't know anyone personally who has problems. I know few people who have 2016's with the auto and they love their truck and have had no problems. While it sucks that some have had bad issues, it's also worth it to know they aren't all cursed.

It's not work, though. At least it isn't for me, I like the direct control over the transmission.

You are exactly right. I said I have an auto and don't know anyone who is unsatisfied. I don't know you or anyone else that have had problems. It sucks that you have had such a bad experience but it doesn't change my position that it hasn't affected me or anyone I know who owns one. Theres nothing to read in to. If you don't like like that your tacoma has issues go fight it with toyota. I've had to do the same thing with a new subaru I bought that went through two motors. It sucked but not everyone had my experience so that doesn't mean every subaru is horrible in 2014. Easy........everyone has different experiences and they arent all bad. I would buy another 3rd gen tacoma.

I have a MT TRD PRO. What is your average MPG? I can't get more than 16.5 MPG mixed driving no matter what.

Is your truck completely stock? How many miles on it?

Seems low, I can usually get 18-19 mixed driving.

Love my Manual!! Drove the Slushbox and bought the Manual. The Manual is as good, as the Auto is bad. All the Bitchin and Whinin seems to be coming from the 3.5/Auto pairing. People with the 3.5/Manual pairing seem quite happy.

Frank, I only have a TRD intake but I had the same MPG before the upgrade. I have 2k miles on it. I've tried to drive like a grandma but there is no difference. I can get better mpg on my 2014 Baja Auto driving like an maniac.

My truck was a bit worse on fuel when it was new, but not by much. FYI, I run a tonneau cover and ethanol free fuel. Not sure if either of those would make a noticeable difference for you though.

There had to be enough complaints about the Auto for Toyota to introduce TSBs, a guy down the street bought one and said he likes the truck overall except the Auto and if he had it to do over would get a Manual.

That is not 100 percent true. Yes more with the auto have complained. I will give you that. The flip side of the coin just look through the threads and there are unhappy people with the manual also. So there are unhappy people who drive both. What gets me is most manual owners say the manual is bullet proof but it just is not so. Maybe more bullet proof then an auto but still problems. I had trouble with my auto and have had both trans TSB done to it. Is it perfect no but I am 95 percent happy and I can live with that.
