Performance mods? Free cheap???

Other than the deck plate mod are there any proformace mods for the 5vzfe!?

How do I get better exhaust sounds without cutting the whole thing off?

 

Supercharger or if you real creative ,a Turbo!....... Anything else is just noise,not performance.

Makes me think back to high school days. Wayyyyy back to the seventies. Friend had a 150,000 mile beater 307 v8 Chevelle he wanted to be "cool". Had no money for performance. We ran the windshield wiper washer hoses to the rear tires. Burnouts were a reality! We ran an old pair of Jensen 6x9 speakers to the trunk, made a cassette recording at the Sunshine Speedway of the Pro Stock cars burning out and put that in the player. Pulled into the local hangout lot and "looked and sounded cool" with a burnout.

 

Cheap, easy and increased performance... 1 of the 3 doesnt exist in the same universe as the other 2.

 

Well that's more "performance" than you're going to get out of an NA 5vz. Remove the air intake elbow that goes into the fender and that's all you can do. There are literally dyno charts floating around for this mod. Everything else is a waste, unless you just want a louder truck.

 

My $.02 on modding the engine or drive train. I go to pretty remote places with my truck so I don't touch the engine or drive train other than maintenance...and adding a second gas tank.

If it's a mod that will make it more reliable than I'll do it. But if there's any risk of making it less reliable I stay away. Re gearing is a good example. I have 33" mud terrains so my truck is pretty slow. A re gear will get some acceleration back and also put less strain on the drive line and engine. It's a performance mod that will also improve reliability....I think.

 

Adding an opening to your airbox (deckplate) will do nothing for engine performance, only add some sound and a coolness factor for TW cred.

 

best mod you can get for free is the sum-b gets you to where your going!

 

Go fast stickers

 

You could install the split second piggy back or Map3ECU and advance timing a bit to get a little more out of premium gas or e85.

 

I always forget the benefit of good stickers. Wasted my time and money on tires and spark plugs.

Run some tubing from the air intake to inside your cab and mount it in front of the A/C. Blast the A/C while you drive and boom....cold air intake
