Honestly don't know. In all reality he was probably bullshitting me back, but I didn't wanna take that risk and get popped with a couple grand in parts and labor and have to pay it before I got my truck back

I am going to agree with your belief on him bullshitting you.

In all honesty, there is a fundamental list of parts which should be upgraded once boost is added. A clutch being on that list. Especially if larger tires and or weight have been added. The clamp load of the pressure plate isn't capable of holding all of that added torque resistance to the engine.

Plus the OEM clutch is meant for pampering, not callused strength.

For some reason the TRD SC is always on the brink of Toyota warranty and customer pay problems. You talk about the clutch going out quick. I am a Toyota tech and I will let you into my lifestyle for a few minutes. If you had brought the vehicle to me and I confirm that the clutch is fried, I too would first question the driver and how he or she drives with a SC. I know for a fact there are some awesome drivers out there that can make a clutch last for well over 100K. I also have seen a kid blow through one within a week of owning the vehicle.
On the Toyota side, our policy....which I assume should be across the board....is that we will replace that clutch under warranty if under a set amount of miles and approval of the service manager and/or Toyota. BUT....we are putting all OEM parts in there. Our paperwork in parts and warranty section must match. If it goes out again, we will not replace it under warranty. Especially since we know it is SC and pushing out more horses. At this time, you have the option to have us do it at customer pay and we install your clutch disc. That too can open up a can of worms If that one fails within a set of time, who pays for it? We just installed it, but the part more than likely is the problem.
Sorry for the long message, but hope it was useful.

Haven't beat on it,redlined, etc......Just driving normal & 30+ years of driving manual transmissions without replacing clutches.
marinetaco I spoke to Toyota Corporate CS & they said the supercharger was not a factor.( I don't believe them) Have you seen low mile clutches that would slip but looked fine when you pulled them?

Edit: Can you tell me what the book time vs reality is for Remove & Replace of a clutch?

I am going to call them next week to make an appointment to bring it in, been a lot going on lately & haven't had time.

I can absolutely guarantee that I have never redlined my truck. (what the dealer or anyone else did is unknown)

Heavy flywheel if you off-road or tow a lot.

Like if you want pick a response and reduce reciprocating Mass for more Nimble handling.

The OEM clutch will not handle the added engine torque from the supercharger for very long. Just the nature of the Beast.

    UPDATE:

I have been meaning to get the truck into the dealer: Today I dropped her off at 7am

I contacted corporate & was told that the clutch is covered/also was told the same from the service writer this morning on drop off!

Just got off the phone & they now wanted authorization to do the tear down: 3 hrs @ $120 hr I gave it to them.

I can't wait to see where this goes, now I know why everyone says just DIY with URD parts & call it a day!

    More updates to come........................

    UPDATE 2:

I received a call at 8am from the service writer that the transmission/clutch is out & I can come down and speak with the lead tech. He is sending it up the line to see how this will be handled.

I hope Toyota will do the right thing but the question seems to be, what is the right thing?

I'll let the pictures do the talking!

You need a higher spring tension pressure plate.

Split the difference in cost if you can, and upgrade your clutch.

Those yellow dampers, when the fail, cause for a catastrophic clutch failure. They are mean for smooth operation. Not strength.

    UPDATE 3:

Just received a call from the dealer: I was told it is not covered because the vehicle was modified!

Wasn't that the point of buying the TRD parts & having the install by Toyota? WTF!

Can I get some current feedback on those who have upgraded their clutches to either the URD Stage II/III or LCE Dual Comp Clutch Kit?

I have been reading various threads but have to pull the trigger soon!

URD are upgraded over the Competition Clutch brand. I recommend the URD stage 3. Give you a higher percentage of overhead capacity. Higher torque rating.

LCE is good as well. I think it is a Centerforce or derivative. Long standing good history in the adtermarket clutch industry. Might be a little cheaper than the URD.

Do not purchase Competition Clutch brand.

The LCE comes with a new throw out bearing but I wasn't planning on swapping it out, the URD Stage III seems to be rated for more HP/Torque. BTW, I was planning on using the stock flywheel if that matters!

Nothing like kicking me in the balls when I'm down ;) I'm not finished fighting Toyota USA yet!

What else won't they cover because of the so called "modifications"?

I have a supercharged 07. The supercharger was installed at 16,000 miles by the previous owner. I dont know if the clutch was upgraded. The truck now has 128,000 on it and the clutch has never had a single issue.

After reading the previous posts I would bet your clutch is not OEM.
