I guess the cps's that were suppose to be failing left and right a while back has died out so now we are back to the howling differential. At least the howling hole issue that went on for months has subsided.

The trouble is "JOE CONSUMER" isn't really a car guy (or truck guy), and got an automatic toy because his friends all own trucks and he probably can't even drive a stick shift. I've only had one automatic trans car/truck in my life. My wife had a 1995 Lexus SC300 when we got married. Now she can drive a stick shift as good as anyone ... and loves it. People who can't handle a manual trans in traffic are just lazy.

That's why you never buy first production runs of a new generation.

Sometimes it's not a question of "Lazy".

After an accident spun my left foot around 180 degrees, breaking both bones and doing significant nerve damage to my clutch leg, a manual trans is not an option for me in traffic. Had to get rid of my beloved/loathed turbo Rx7.

I would gladly drive a manual as a daily if possible, and after a few years of healing thought I could handle a manual DD once again (Mustang Cobra).

Wrong. One bad day in Atlanta traffic and my ankle swelled up to the size of a grapefruit. The bones there are no longer smooth where it has healed and constant movement irritates the nerves and tendons. Think Turbo Tennis Elbow.

Besides, plenty of manufacturers, Toyota included, can make a good driving automatic transmission. Why they hosed it with the new Tacoma is the question.

Ya, but we have another year before we have to deal with it being the worst.

    Said the latest ISIS leader.

Sorry can't believe that video, it said the Taco is a small truck, I bought mine as a mid size. :poking: What was interesting is the said its loud, but didn't talk about the auto trans.

    For those comparing KBB and Consumer reports;

Consumer reports gets their data from surveys and research, their goal is reviewing vehicles (and other things), not pricing them

KBB is focused on pricing, they get their data from actual sales and prices paid. They do surveys, but also can get data from the states. Remember the price you paid for the truck was reported to your state for tax reasons. KBB can average out actual prices paid to come up with an estimate of value, and they now do this for both new and used cars (used to just be used, which is why it sometimes takes a year or two to get first values on a used car, they need enough data).

KBB does also do reviews now, but their main focus is pricing while consumer reports is rankings and reviews.

A poor consumer reports ranking can affect the KBB pricing eventually. As people read consumer reports, the demand for the Tacoma may decrease, if dealers aren't selling what is on their lot (mostly talking used here but new also) they will discount those vehicles until they sell. The used vehicle prices are then reported to KBB and the average comes down.

Of course there is always more to pricing (and to reviews) than just this, it is just an example of how consumer reports can affect the value, even if you don't trust them but like KBB instead.

Whether or not you trust either of these companies is up to you. I don't personally know how much I do myself, I will look at all sources and decide for myself. Both these companies are huge though, and many people use them. I know my parents would never buy something consumer reports labels Poor, so it does affect some people. Then again they wouldn't buy a Tacoma anyway.

    Perhaps, your right!
However, if you look at CR used cars to avoid buying, the 2015 Chevy Colorado is listed, but not the 2016 Chevy Colorado. What gives? Different truck? The 2.8 Duramax fixed all the issues? The first year of the first generation typically comes with problems. That said, I have a 2017 OR and I'm not a fan of the automatic transmission by any means!

lol... half of the people in this thread are full of shit. Seriously... you 'reviewed consumer reports' and it determined if you bought the car/truck or not? Even if it's true please don't admit it in public...

That chart only goes back to 2002, the Tacoma started back around 95-96, no idea if the early years had high sales numbers or not.

People just take everything personal on forums that is for a vehicle they currently own. They don't want to hear all the issues and complaints on a vehicle they just dropped a bunch of money on, and generally are in denial about the problems (but not everyone)

Some people are like well if you drive your truck after 10:30a on a sunny day and press the ect button around 11 and don't put it in D, you have to use the manual shifting it drives fine.. So I have no problems with my truck.

Cool story. Now point me to ANY vehicle or vehicle forum that doesn't have issues? I will check back later for your list... *won't hold my breath*

Could only assume it did. Also taken into consideration that we have more money now than we did 20 years ago. I can guess that it still won't beat 2016+ sales. Also to note that many articles online state 2015 had record sales, and the chart proves it. So I can only rule out 95-96 still didn't sell as well.
