Can you tell us a bit more about the blue sea install? How'd you cut the hole for it cleanly?

 

They do make a goo gone specifically for cars. I think it is called goo gone automotive. It is what I used for mine and it worked great.

That's a good idea, thanks! The Colorado one is spiral bound, but I have to remove the cover for it to not close on itself. Already frustrated with the Utah one, so I'll be taking it in soon. How much did it cost you to do spiral bound?

 

Bolt on right over oem skid. Added a few washers to keep it about and 1/8" away from the bumper

 

For those following along, my dealership wants 360 to install the ECGS Bushing plus parts. Won't warranty the install. Tacomas are expensive...

 

Hard to put in words but, I guess it has a deeper tone when accelerating most noticeable at mid to full throttle. Same as you might get if you swap out the factory CAI with an after market CAI. Only it's a few hundred $$ less. Maybe i'll try to make a sound clip this wk end.

Found out something kinda cool. I bought my 2016 Taco Offroad with the Predator steps not realizing that they weren't really an off-road item. I wasn't surprised when I popped off a step recently. I was disappointed at first and then, impressed. I think they are designed to pop off when hit laterally and avoid damage to the body like the previous OEM tube steps would have caused. Bravo Toyota, and thanks for the free warranty replacement!

Agreed - I always liked the look of the second gen front skid. That looks great IMO. I'm not by my truck right now but @sorgon82 do the access points of the second gen skid actually line up to anything on the third gen? After you powdercoat be sure to put some pictures up for us!

 

It's the Undercover Flex tonneau. Got it off Amazon for 698, everywhere else was 798. It gets a couple drops here and there in the bed, but I'm impressed with how dry it remains with all the heavy rain we've been getting!

 

The size of the hole needed to be cut is quite a bit smaller than the size of the unit, so the cut doesn't need to be super precise. Take out the cubby. I used a reciprocating saw to get it done, routed the wiring to the front to a Switchpros system. Pretty easy thing to do, really useful and looks good too.

I've used mine a few times, and love it! BUT, the real reason for me doing it will be here on Monday.. The RTT, more specifically, the power needed for the interior lighting in the RTT

 

Can't wait to see how your setup turns out! How do you plan (if you are planning) to bring mountain bikes along with you?

 

I have a Thule T2 hitch rack. So, I will be able to carry up to 4 bikes with me, but I "may" also still be able to use the tailgate pad, however I am trying to keep the bed open.

I'd be interested to see if Toyota warranties them for you. They are an accessory and it wasn't from a defect but hitting something. Keep us updated.

Lol, ummmm yeah, pretty sure that these weren't designed with that "break away" feature.... Want cab protection, get sliders.

I think it actually might be. The welds are super strong for up/down forces but surprisingly weak for side to side forces. So if you hit something while in motion - they pop off pretty easily. I think it's smart! But yes, sliders for protection, I know. I like the steps and kinda want sliders with pop off, replacable steps!
