They all have issues, the 3rd gen just has a major design flaw and correct me if I am wrong but isn't there at least one thread a day started on shifting/transmission related issues? I belong to a lot of forums and I have yet to see that anywhere but here.

Ahhh, now if I counted my wife's cars I'd be pushing 25 or so myself.. 25 years of marriage and 15 +/- cars. I've lost track  And another 5 or 6 for my kids.

I always thought it was saying 15 had record sales for the 2nd Gen. I was thinking the older ones might have done better because of being less expensive.

The wikipedia chart shows a large decline from 2001-2000. Again, economy can also play a factor.

I found a sales chart that went back to 1988 and it looks like it stayed pretty consistent ofaround 150K a year give or take a couple thousand each way.

whats the design flaw? You realize these "issues" are the minority right? People having a truck the runs fine does not mean they are in denial..

The vast majority of complaints came with 2016 models which most were corrected with the TSB. When I took my truck in for service they confirmed that most issues were with the 2016s.

Or like if you drive down the highway at 53.5 miles an hour with a south by south east 12.7mph cross wind during the waxing cresent of the third moon with all the windows down you can hear a major design flaw slight howl from tiny holes which are plugged costing a nickel, posted every day. Understand completely.

Or all the cps failures causing 5 mile lines to the deslerships.

But of course, those first and 2nd Gen Tacomas are flawless examples of manufacturing prowess! And those hundred thousand plus perforated frame swaps certainly don't impact tundra resale values! Check out how flawless those 1st & 2nd gens are!

Why would he waste his time, when 1 you clearly had you mind made up when you walked on the lot that the 3rd gen was crap, and he didn't have a 15 for you. Now, yes he should have shown you interest as that might make you a future consumer, but my guess is he was more concerned with that weeks check.

3500 mile, 4 months in (1 month basicly in the body shop) and I am squeaking and it's starting to get annoying, but I haven't yet done anything about it.

If your putting on the pro grill, I think you will take off that edge piece in the grill. Also, lay a towel or blanket over and you shouldn't have any issues.

I would expect sales to drop some as the GM twins are in the market now, I know they have been around for a few years, but they are now a little more known.

Wow some folks have been keeping the economy going. Combined my wife and I have had a total of 14 vehicles and we have been married for 19 years.

I bought this truck because the 17 was cheaper than the used 2nd gens. If that causes me issues down the road then I guess I deserve it. Guess I could always trade down if that is such the case.

You could melt the snow of 1000 Siberian winters with the salt in this thread, holy shit.

I know my personal anecdote means jack shit, but one month into owning a '17 OR DCLB, I love it so much. I know I'm not even 2/3rds of the way to 1k miles but jesus I love driving that truck. Hope I still do with time, guess we'll see.

Rofl .. design flaw? Didn't the ENTIRE FRAME get recalled in the 2nd or 1st gen? lol Now that is a design flaw. Shift points you don't like is a minor annoyance to a few.

You need to visit more forums... there is a LONG list of recalls for every vehicle unfortunately.

One last note: Let's all be honest here... the last really good Toyota Truck had a solid front axle... everything since then has been riding high on past glory days. They are still good in comparison to others on the market but back then they were the cats ass.

You do realize that the 3rd Gen is using pretty much a 2nd Gen Frame with a few extra braces and whatnot?

Rofl... 'pretty much' isn't the same. I am certain whatever caused the first disastrous recall was addressed with the new truck. Your comment is ridiculous.

That's exactly what they said about the second gens when the first gen frame recall came out...

Nothing is perfect, but give me 4.56 gears and I would be close enough for me.
