This is going nowhere fast. 52 users viewing what a thread that, at some point, had a whiff of relevant discussion but has devolved into a bitch fest. It's groundhog day in the 3rd gen forum.... :locked:

You're doing a fine job there yourself with 14 vehicles...nice work! Funny, my wife and I are coming right up on 19 years of marriage too.

Well I bought a new vehicle in 2016, so I guess that is worth a few dinners, including San Antonio where my truck was built. Thanks, you made my day

Ya, once I started counting up, I was thinking the same thing, but I've been driving for for about 28 years, wife 20. Most of our vehicles have been driven to the ground, and only 5 have been brand new.

This last statement especially. People who owned trucks just because they liked having a truck got out of them early or just parked them and bought a fuel efficient DD. Or if they lost jobs they got out of a huge payment on a truck and got a cheapie.

I myself will keep my truck if the gas prices go way up again but I get 21-23 city and don't work too far from home, plus mine will be paid off in the near future.

Since meeting in 2002, my wife and I have owned 5 vehicles total..starting with her 96 Tacoma and my 97 Olds Achieva. She went to a Rav4 in 2008 from her buyback..I went to a 06 Colorado (only new vehicle I ever owned) and now my 2010.

Ya I would still have my 98 taco, if I had been wise enough to get a double cab v6 then, or cut off the kids legs.

Remember, I think '15 was the first Colorado and it was rated Car and Drivers truck of the year!
I know because I was shopping for a truck then and bought a 2015 Taco hoping I didn't make a mistake!
I'll live well with my choice!

Got my CR car issue today and saw the opinion of the new Tacoma. I will be in the market for a mid size truck sometime later this year and the new Tacoma was at the top of my list. The results of the CR survey do surprise me given the overall reliability of the Tacoma (and Toyota in general) thru the years. My last car was a 2002 Camry Solara which I sold last April. Fine car. Browsing this forum I had noted the various issues associated with the new Tacoma model. Made me glad I had not bought in the first year of the new model.

This is the reliability chart from the April 2017 Consumer Reports. I was unable to include the legend but I would think it is rather self explanatory. The info comes from a survey CR send to subscribers. I use to answer my survey every year. But since I do not own a automobile anymore I did not participate this year. The really weird thing about the scoring here is how does the 2016 get a -2 on overall reliability when there is not s single negative score on all of the components. I cannot remember if overall reliability is asked but if so how reliable is a survey when it is this illogical. I read thru this topic and no one had mentioned this so I thought I would throw it out there. CR giving the 2016 Tacoma a "much worse than average" overall reliability does not make sense. In the past they would have just said it was "unknown" given my reading of the CR auto issue thru the last 15 years.

So back on topic with this thread. What gives? The problems I know of so far are the bad shift points of the transmission, LCA howling, and CPS sensor failure.

The only reliability issue is the CPS sensor. Denso must've made a bad batch. I don't see how they can say the whole truck is unreliable when there are other makes and models that suffer from legitimate design flaws that really hammer their reliability.

Then again, maybe I'm just a guy that's happy I got my Tacoma with a manual. I wouldn't rather have any other truck

In a privately owned forum it is up to the owner. Not jumping on you Mush just how it is. I mod for a dart site that is almost all adults and the owner doesn't allow profanity..not ideal but his rules.
