Use Disc Brake Grease on the pivot points and it will stop creaking.

*Post Hijack* I have isolated the problem to the coil return spring. If you look underneath there and carefully pinch the coil while working the clutch, the sound is gone. The coil needs a dampener of some sort. I haven't had time to mess with it.

**Back to Post** FWIW, I had a shiteload of issues with my 2010 Taco.

Because it's cheaper? Cartridge style filters are cheaper than self contained ones.

Did you have a bad experience with a cartridge?

I did an oil change and it was easier than my last car. 6qt is killing me though.

But what about us that don't have these issues? Yota has alway been good to me so far, why wouldn't I stay with what has worked for me so far.
Because I came to a forum to learn more about the truck I ordered. I am glad I did it that way, after a day here I started to think about canceling my truck order. Dealt with 3 months of thinking I just ordered a ticking time bomb, shit if I don't remind myself somedays the TW paranoia kicks in.
I stick around because I believe this is the place I can be best informed about the Tacomas. I want to know what issues people have with them, it keeps me informed and aware. But to say they all suck and every one is stupid and all the other crap because some one won't make judgements about the all the tacos manufactured because of posts on TW, to me is ridiculous. Not to mention unrealistic statistically. There are possibly a few things that we might be able to call a trend or seems likely to happen with the model, but to me that would have to be a rather large percentage of folks here in my opinion.
The entertainment around here some days is priceless though.

Well two at of six ain't bad (sung in my best meatloaf impersonation). The first two are the failed ones we are all familiar with. The second the second two were replaced because of howling not because they had failed. and the last two were due to fluid leaks. So yes that is six that were replaced, but still only two that actually failed.

I'm not saying every truck is going to have a failed rear diff but look at the number of failures and replacements we've seen here on the third gen rear differential. I have never seen this to be so numerous on any Toyota Tacoma Model Year prior.

OK I wasted some time scanning those posts. The only tow truck involved was when Eden4x2 continued to drive with a known massive differential leak. You cannot blame that on the differential itself, but on the leak and the guy who drove with no oil in it.

I stick with what I stated before, two failed differentials. sire their have been lots of issues with howling, but that is not the same as failing.

Thread 1: Rear diff completely destroyed. Teeth missing from ring gear in photos on first post.
Thread 2: Dude's rear diff locked up and he spun out on a Los Angeles Freeway. They didn't drive that one home.
Thread 3: Rear differential was replaced due to GRINDING noises coming from it
Thread 6: Clearly photos of the Tacoma on a flat bed tow truck because the diff blew up on the road

That's 4 threads with mechanical failures in differentials. The other two I'll give you are up for debate but still have critical mechanical issues...
