If I were to walk into a dealer and ask to custom order a new taco from the factory, how "FEW" options could I ask for?

I don't need or want Bluetooth, I don't need or want navigation, back up camera, satellite radio, seat warmers, power rear sliding window, chrome foot rest door sill protectors, convenience package, rear view mirror auto dim, side view mirror defrosters and maybe a dozen other "add on's" that usually come with a new truck.

All I really want is power windows/locks, cruise, Auto Trans, A/C and an engine and 4 wheels.

Can I order a truck like that from the factory?

Your bare bones Taco would probably be a fleet vehicle. A few of the options you listed you don't need will most likely be offered in the base SR package in a DCLB. #firstworldproblems

I would think it would be difficult to order a 2nd gen from the factory, since they no longer roll off the assembly line.

2nd gens also don't have a power rear window, (nor heated mirrors I think).

I'm guessing this should be in the 3rd gen section?

Toyotas are not a la carte vehicles like some manufacturers. You have certain packages to choose from with various features. I have a base model V6 4x4, which is the lowest option other than a fleet vehicle. It's funny how some of those options you don't need can seem appealing after some time in the vehicle. The good news is you can add higher quality features for less money than buying them stock.

As I understand it, you can't order something that is *truly* custom from the factory. BUT, what you can do, is order from the available set of factory options. So SR package in color X. Generally, the dealer will first try for a factory trade, then they'll try to sucker you into taking one that is "similar" to what you want, and then FINALLY when you put your foot down, they will place the order with the factory. Anything outside of the standard set of options listed in the brochure, will have to be added by the dealer -- the factory won't.

    ^^^^ what he said.

When I bought my 2015, I knew I wanted Super White with the roof rack and nav (should have said screw the nav), but the closest truck also had the bedstep, door sill protectors, and the bug deflector on the hood. All of that installed by the factory, not the dealer.

    Question: Why?

Seriously, is it because you think it will be "cheaper"?

And ditto on what people said. You're in the wrong sub-forum since you can't order anything from a dealership in a "2nd Gen" since they stopped making our trucks in 2015...

When I was considering a 3rd gen my local dealer told me certain option groups aren't available in certain regions. I'm not sure if that was true or not but they couldn't/wouldn't special order one for me in the configuration I wanted.

It's kinda like going to McDonalds. It is cheaper to order the #2 combo and get the burger, fries and a drink than it is to order the burger and drink separately even if you don't want the fries. All vehicle manufacturers put together equipment packages that their research has shown will appeal to buyers. It ain't perfect, but they can build and sell them cheaper by simplifying things on the assembly line. You may have to pay for certain options you don't want in order to get those you do want. But it is usually cheaper to do that than build it one piece at a time.

FWIW, Ford and other manufacturers will come closer to building a custom truck for you than Toyota. That is part of the reason Toyota's are usually more attractively priced.
