I write a check for my mortgage. The only check I write every month cause I don't bank with Wells Fargo.

Every once in a while I'll end up writing a check. Wrote one when I bought my truck five months ago. I write one to the exterminator for his quarterly visits. Wrote one a couple weeks ago to a Boy Scout troop for pinestraw being delivered tomorrow. Takes me years to get through a single book.

I *never* use a debit card except at my bank's ATMs to get cash. Too many headaches straightening things out if the number gets stolen. Happened to a coworker; she was on the phone for hours with her bank and the various places where payments had bounced because her bank account had been emptied. She got it sorted out eventually, but it was a hot mess.

Credit cards are a lot easier to straighten out. I had a number stolen last year. My credit card company texted/called me to ask if a suspicious transaction was mine. I told them no. They reversed the transaction and sent me a new card.

Bonus: I get at least 2% cashback on all purchases. A couple cards provide 3% on travel/restaurant purchases, and one provides 5% on gasoline purchases.

Or the clever owner realized they could own a MB free & clear:
    Step 1- form a LLC
    Step 2- buy nice shit
Step 3- file taxes with nice shit written off
Step 4- hookers & blow FTW

Sounds good, except for the little detail where writing something off doesn't make it free. It just reduces the income you pay taxes on. Income that has to exist before you can offset it with the expense whether LLC or a "hobby expense". At best you discount the expense by your marginal tax rate percentage.

    This.

We use a credit card for almost EVERYTHING and pay it off at the end of every month.

Rack up the points and if the card is ever compromised it's not too big of a hassle.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I don't have any credit cards. I use my debit as a credit card and write the occasional check. #rurallife

I don't have any credit cards. Don't write checks. My mom has credit cards and one of her cards was compromised the bank notified her and took the charge off her account. She also has a debit card with the same bank and that was compromised as well and the bank notified her in that case as well. Revered the charge on her debit card and sent her two new cards. One debit and one credit

In my coworker's situation, the compromise emptied her account on the same morning as some legitimate payments so those all bounced as NSF. While her bank worked with her and them to sort out the insufficient-funds fees / penalties and such, it was a lot of hassle.

Maybe just a fluke, either way I'd rather be in a situation disputing money they claim I owe than disputing money that's gone and I'm trying to get back. If a card is compromised, particularly while out of town, I can just use a different one until I get back. Easier to do with credit cards than with debit cards. (the card compromise last year was during a two week vacation trip)

Since I pay everything off every month, I pay no fees and no interest.

The fine print between my steps says "LLC pays off vehicle on credit, sells vehicle to the owner for $1, then declares BK & disappears into the ethers." Whether or not any of that implodes doesn't matter, step 4 is always the fall-back.

Don't forget the super-fine print that says "Find someone who will give $40k credit to an LLC with no income and no co-signer". :D

Sort of akin to the secret of flying being to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

This is why you should have a daily limit on your card(my bank sends me a text for approval on purchases over $500) and always have a couple grand above that limit in your account.

THIS is the guy the gives older drivers a bad name.... Pull up to a green light, stop, wait for the left turn arrow to turn green, then go, then change lanes without a turn signal. Love living in San Diego. I killed the audio because I was saying bad words so loud you could hear them over the horn...
