Morning all
Need to figure out a new method of hauling tools around from the truck/car. My tool bag is overfilling with tools now especially since I just ordered deep impact sockets to swap out my standard sockets. I was thinking of a few tool rolls and a Plano box or Pelican Case

 

Morning all! Bought a chrome grille last night, so now I have a spare. I need to figure out how to strip, prime, and paint one of them. Then I can cut out the middle and throw some mesh in there

 

Going to try and help, because I know someone already attempted this in the what have you done to your 2nd gen thread..

Yo @ManBeast, sorry to "drag" you in here. I think you tried this, right?! What did you do, and what worked or didn't work??!!

 

I hear that spraying the chrome with oven cleaner will strip the chrome off

 

I saw some posts in that thread about using bleach but it didn't look too promising! I am following in their footsteps and getting the color matched pain from that same site.

I can try that! I'm not sure if I'd rather use chemicals or just sand it off enough to give the primer something to grip. And I'm not sure I even need primer. Time to research!

 

These sounds like a lot of first world problems hehe

What a difference 24 hours makes; yesterday morning it was calm and 45 here. This morning it's 16 and windy, lol.
Anybody got exciting plans for the weekend?

Big day tomorrow. Pinewood derby with Jacob's Cub Scouts

 

Yeah... stay away from here with it if you can. At least until summer and fall.

 

Wife is gone for the weekend so just some small truck/house projects and fixing my cousin's jeep.......

 

I loved that about being a cub scout. I had the ugliest, fastest car in my troop for 3 years running when I was a kid, lol. All of the weight in the nose and right behind the front axle, just enough on the rest of it to hold the wheels on, haha! And graphite powder around the nails for less friction.

Edit- Another trick was to bend the nails just a little so that the ends that the wheels ride on are angled up just enough to keep the wheels off of the body. Less friction that way, so a faster car.

 

Gonna try and spend the weekend in bed with the girlfriend. Woo!

Good point. I just need to convince her that whatever plans she probably has won't be as fun as what I've got in mind. Time to break out the special stuff

 

There's a ridiculous amount of trick like this out there. Just need to google it. We used to smooth the seams off the axles then put the boy scout graphite on them. You can also sand the seams off the wheels. One axle bent up higher than the others so the car rides on 3 wheels.
