Ok guys and gals, there may be a thread for this and if so I apologize...I've had my HID Elite kit in my 3rd gen for 2 weeks now and I have the same vibration issue as most do with this setup. Talked to Austin at TRS and he said after lots of research they have found that it's not their product, it's the actual projector inside the headlight itself. He steered me in the direction of the way to go to replace it OR an easy DIY fix that's a lot cheaper. My question is has anyone did this mod and if so, is it worth the time and money to replace or just deal with the vibration?

    Thanks Joey

    What's the cheaper DIY fix?

    Nope. I don't buy it.

I emailed TRS before choosing an HID kit asking if I purchased their set and had issues with vibration, if I could return the set and they said no. Its not their problem.

This really bothered me, so I ordered an HID kit from another reputable source and have no vibrational issues whatsoever.

This holds no water. They are both using the same type of light output in theory as a gas discharge bulb (Halgon vs Zenon) with 360 degree light output inside the projector. Therefore the stock bulbs would vibrate too. I would fault the product. My thoughts on it.

I had issues with TRS on another product and got the same response that 'it wasn't their products fault'.

I quit using TRS due to their customer service when you have issues.

Swapping the projectors is by no means an "easy" project.

Well, swapping the projectors is in fact easy, a little dremeling and 4 screws per side. But removing the whole front of the truck to get the headlights out and hours of prying the lenses off and repeat visits to the oven followed by hours of scraping old sealant out of the headlight is not easy.

I never got around to putting an HID kit in, all I did was go straight for the projector retrofit.

Hm yeah pulling the headlight out and apart is not an easy DIY fix. Do-able sure but easy, no. I have morimotos and they definitely shake. Seems to be getting worse actually. Had them for few months now. Im fine with it for the most part, knew about it going in but I am interested in a fix so i cant deny its atleast slightly bothersome

Austin at TRS said he's heard lots of guys taking the headlight apart and taking the projector out and using JB Weld when putting it back in to help stabilize the projector from vibrating.

I understand what you're saying and agree with you on your thoughts too. From his perspective, he was saying the reason I see the vibration with the HID kit is because of the cutoff line it has. With halogen, it's not as noticeable because the cutoff isn't as fine as with HID's.

Maybe but my cutoff line is pretty defined with Halogen bulbs. I am inclined to believe that the aftermarket kit is a sloppy fit and moves in the housing. Just my guess.

I have the Morimoto kit and no vibration other than the ability to, at times, see the cutoff line moving in sync with the truck's movement. I don't see how it can be a sloppy fit, those bulbs were a bastard to spin and snap into place. I thought the kit overall was of a very high quality and heir service has been just fine his far. Just offering an alternate viewpoint from a happy customer.

Bump, thinking about removing mine and just going back to halogen. They look great, but I am starting to get really annoyed with vibrating coming from my passenger side.

It's the projector not the bulbs. I ran the Morimoto kit for about a year, before I got annoyed with the bouncing cutoff and did a RX350 retrofit. Couldn't be happier.

I have the hylux kit in mine and have no vibration issues. The only "vibration" I get is the natural bounce that goes along with the truck's suspension.

I just don't think I am at the point to be dismantling my headlights now. Maybe in the future

I've replaced my HIDs with another aftermarket kit from HyluxTek and it's totally awesome. never had any vibration, nobody in the HyluxTek thread has reported any.

sounds like the rep is full of it.

I've had two different HID kits in this Tacoma, the HyluxTek and Xenon Depot with absolutely no shaking or vibration from either set. Try a different brand if you can and I think you will be happy.

    all tore up already
I dont have any experience with trs or morimoto bulbs but have you seen the videos? How can that be anything other than "filament" shake? Cutoff line does not move, just the intense spot in the beam pattern moving wildly.
