Haven't in the last ten years since moving to the southern part of the province. Used to do problem work for farmers and ranchers. Wolves, beaver, coyotes, muskrats, etc.

Nothing like running a mile of trapline after dark in snowshoes, with nothing but a .22 in grizzly country.

You and I would be good friends if we lived close to each other...lol

No grizzlies here, but I had a heck of a standoff with a moose a few years ago, and he wasn't bothered in the least by my 22...lol

You'll love it! Big learning curve catching your fist few, but once you get the hang of it you can rack some big numbers with beaver. Keep me posted!

I already have a small conibear, just need to build a box to practice catching black squirrels lol then I will get a big or 2 for beavers. Just don't know yet what I will do with the dead animal then... may use a few to feed bears for bear season but it would be great to preserve the fur and sell it or make a love blanket for my woman hahaha

I snare most of my beaver, but laws vary from place to place a lot. Skinning a beaver is NOT, I repeat NOT easy. I have done a lot of them and it still takes me 35 min for one beaver - thats clean skinning though. You can nail them to a piece of plywood, dry them and sell them to a local buyer. As for the carcass, they do make great bear bait. We eat the back straps on all the beaver we catch. Some of the best meat in the woods IMHO.

Good to know! Will have to practice! I heard that you have to boil the beaver a few time because it has a lot of fat... am i right? Do you know how to keep the fur smooth and soft to find another use to it?

    Beaver tails are good eatin!

Used to freeze beaver carcasses and cut them in half and feed them to my mastiff. Great dog food and they will eat everything but the teeth. Kinda makes em smelly for a house dog though.

If you learn how to clean skin a beaver, the meat is really lean. As for the fur, you can get it tanned really cheap through USAFox, or a similar company. Learn how to skin, flesh and dry the pelt, then you can sell it or send it off to get tanned. The same company will make all sorts of stuff out of your furs if you want - hats, blankets, mittens, etc.

If you lived closer I'd show you myself! You tube has all the info you need. Expect your first beaver to take at least 90 min to skin flesh and nail to a board - maybe longer.

Read above^. I dry the pelts and sell them - old school huh?!?! They usually end up in Canadian auctions and are shipped overseas to Russia and China. We also eat the meat.

90mins is not that bad! And I would be proud to have it done all by myself! I'll watch youtube for sure to learn more about it, I also have a big book to read and that will be useful in the futur. I still have a lot to learn And I guess I will get a few contact for learning and selling.
