When is Paul Maurice going to get the hook in the Peg? I'm guessing long before Mike Babcock in TO.

Paul Maurice has run his course as far as I can tell. He and Cheveldayoff have both become masters of skirting the issue of the teams poor defensive play. Personally I think Maurice is due to be replaced. I am also beginning to believe the same may be true for Cheveldayoff. I heard him interviewed the other day. He seemed more proud of his high octane offence than humbled by his Anemic team defence. I give the guy credit for putting together a good group of young players, but I am not convinced he has the dynamic range to finish the job. Time will tell.

 

So no mention of 2 Hatties in three days by Kane?

Not bitter at all. Maurice is lashing out because it's frustrating to
be compared to another coach when you don't measure up. Babcock has Riley, who he knows will get better with time, and a double digit amount of rookies so he has a good reason to be optimistic about next year. Things are falling off for the Leafs this year which is typical for a team after February with a pile of rookie NHLers. Maurice has a young team but they've slipped down in the standings since making the playoffs and there is no record with Maurice to suggest he can improve the situation. He's looking at an underperforming team that he can't turn around and GMs dump coaches in those situations to try to save themselves.

Long and short, Maurice is losing it in public because he's being compared to a superior coach with better future prospects. He knows his days are numbered with the Jets and this was likely his last shot in the NHL as a coach. Anyone in that situation would start to crack. It's a car wreck for him in progress.

Indeed ... I'm hearing it could be another Vin Lecav part 2 but they will have to play better than they did in the first two periods against Toronto. If he can spark some more scoring and gel with the team these last 20 games, it could just be another 2012 playoff team ... squeak in and then make some noise !
