Ive got a tacoma that is turning into a trail beast, and am in the market for another vehicle for daily driving, im thinking of buying another tacoma, probably a double cab prerunner for daily driving and for towing my SAS taco. the bible sais 6500 is tow rating for new tacos, do you think it would tow my 5500# beast on a trailer?

if not, what would? maybe an f150?

    thanks in advance

I bought a used f250 diesel to tow mine. Got a high mile 2006 for under $12k. Easily hauls the Tacoma around. :)

I wouldn't use a Tacoma no. Get a HD diesel and you'll probably never want to go back! Sorry I love mine. Otherwise why the hell would you buy a F-150.. Stay away from that.. How about climb the latter and get a Tundra and it will do that with ease and be a nice driver all around.

I found it on ebay. I'd been looking for 2-3 months and found one with a Buy It Now of $11,900 in Kansas City, MO. Called the seller and found that it was a dealership. Got some info from them, worked out the cash situation on my end, bought the thing, flew out to KC, the guy met me at the airport with the truck and paperwork, filled everything out, drove home.

    If you're looking at Ford diesels either get a 7.3 Powerstroke (pre-2003) or a 2006/2007 Powerstroke 6.0.

The early 6.0 engines had cooling issues and would blow head gaskets. They had the kinks worked out by 2006 before changing to the 6.4 liter. The 6.4 is already being phased out because of issues.

The bad reputation of the 6.0 works out well if you're looking to buy. Folks don't distinguish one year from the next and the reputation has brought down the price of the trucks for all years.

WAAAYY overpriced. Don't buy local. I've seen my exact truck around here for $15k more than I paid.

A 2007 with the 6.0 is good. I believe they switched to the 6.4 in 2008 but can't guarantee that.

Don't let high miles worry you on a diesel truck, if you decide to take that route. There are some killer deals to be had.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...a85QQitemZ140385077893QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

I bought mine with 133k on it and am over 171k now. No issues at all and I'd expect 300k+ out of the setup.

The crew cab short bed is a big truck but hasn't given me any issues fitting anywhere. It's my daily driver these days and serves me well. The crew cab long bed may be a bit big for a dd but if you get one you'll manage to get by. ;)
