    Hi guys,

    Hope everyone is doing well
I bought a brand new TRD Sport DBL Cab 4x4 in March 2014.
Love it and it ran like a dream till a couple of nights ago...when it just would not start.
Had to get it towed to the dealership and found out that it was defective fuel pump.
Just wanted to get your thoughts, is this a common problem...what do I do to avoid it in the future?
I have maintained my taco regularly and take real good care if it...this was completely out of left field and took me by total surprise, and frankly was extremely disappointing and hurtful.
Would love to get any tips, thoughts.

    Thanks y'all

    aj

How many miles do you have on you '14? I have a '14 too so just curious how far you got until you had this problem. And there were no issues or changes felt right before this happened?

I have over 106K miles on my '06, no fuel pump problems.
Keeping the tank over 1/2 full will keep the pump cool. I also avoid ethanol.

Thank you Rob, will do, I realized that I did drive every now and then with the gas tank below 1/4th.

@cmartinez95 - no, I did not have any issues before this happened, it ran like a dream. There was no engine light on or anything of that sort.
This is my commute vehicle, so I have quite a few miles on it, almost 36K.
Having said that, I also maintain it really well, and have gotten all the regular maintenance check ups done at the dealer since I got the vehicle.
Based on what I have read online and from what I have heard from other folks (including Rob above), looks like it would help to have the gas tank at 1/2 full at all times.
I would also suggest talking to your service manager and seeing if they would be able to run a diagnostic on your pump without taking anything apart.

Thanks for the info. I'm just about 1.5K behind you mileage wise. Hopefully this is the exception and not the norm.

Fuel pumps are cooled by gas going through it. So keeping your tank above half full at all times is a whole lot of pain in the ass for no benefit.
Fuel pumps can be damaged by running out of gas, but they are not damaged by lower tanks. Total myth I've never seen anyone back up with science.

My thought process is if a two year old truck has a pump fail then it was a bad pump. I doubt it would be because of how you as an owner are treating it. Unless you are putting in other additives or cleaners into your tank.

Did you ever run it out of gas and crank on it?

A supplier pops out millions of pumps a year. Once in awhile one fails. It's just a numbers game...it happens.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the info.
No, I have never let run it out of gas, and never have had to crank on it as a result.

I got it fixed at the dealership yesterday, had extended warranty...so fortunately did not have to pay anything.
The service manager told me that it was a defective pump (which lost pressure), and they replaced it with a new one.

I never had any additives put in, and all I use is premium gas (91).
I would agree that the fuel level should not make a difference...had an older Honda Civic which I used to drive close to empty very frequently, for over 8 years...this thing never happened.

Thanks everyone, I'll provide updates if I learn anything new.

You shouldn't lease. But that's a different topic.
Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.
If you think your truck is going to hell with only 23K on the clock why would you get another of the same?
