Is that just a personal preference or a bad thing? Opinion on staying oem?

Personal preference. OEM is a 7" wide wheel and the FN replica is 8" wide which would obviously allow you to run a wider tire. I remember reading someone that compared weights and they were maybe 2lbs lighter so not a big deal really. I personally chose OEM because I really like the matte black versus a gloss black.

A few pics with new 4Runner TRD Pro 17s and shod with Falken Wildpeak A/T3Ws. Kept mileage the same by dropping one aspect ratio size from 70 to 65 which is the same size the Sport puts on the stock TRD with 17 inch wheels. In fact it's closer to true odometer and speedo readings than my stock set up was. Verified by GPS. A few other mods are noticeable too. Coming along hundreds of $$$ at a time. Need to find a better photo upload process though.

Thanks to wjrichardson for his pics that got me to go with the 4Runner wheels versus the TRD Pro wheels. The offset of 4 vs 13 scared me at first as I didn't want wheels out past fenders. Plus the matte versus glossy was a deciding factor. I'm happy with the outcome. Stance is great.

Type the part number PTR20-35110 into google. Many sources should come up including dealers who sell TRD parts. I am fortunate to have a dealer nearby with an eBay presence. Therefore I saved shipping which is a big deal. Only paid FL sales tax. Check Bev Smith Toyota in Ft Pierce, FL if you're willing to absorb shipping. If outside FL you won't pay tax. Wheels are popular and I can see why. They look great and in my opinion the 17 inch matte finish on the 4Runner TRD Pro is better than the glossy 16 inch on the Tacoma TRD Pro. Personal preference. There are FN knockoffs out there in 8 inch wide as referenced by wjrichardson in earlier post. Good luck. If there is a wait for the Toyota wheels it's worth it in my opinion.

Guess I was lucky on my timing. I just got mine last Monday. Bev Smith Toyota in Ft Pierce, FL received quite a few for their eBay site. They might have all been earmarked. They came out of Jacksonville. I think sometimes availability depends on your region. I know that was true for the Pro grille. I could not get it at Bev Smith but was able to get it from PA. Toyota plays games.

I'm looking for those black matte OEM wheels but they're on a national backorder.... Anyone work for Toyota or have knowledge about this? A local dealer "had" 6 but just sold 4 so I feel like some are still around....

I bought the last set of grey from a dealer on eBay and this was listed on the posting.

"Attn: Toyota will not allow these wheels to be sold as an upgrade anymore as of 2/28/2017. You will need a vin number from a Toyota TRD Packaged in order to purchase these wheels.
So these are the last set we have. After they're sold they won't be available from Toyota anymore."

The eBay site that posted with their ad that you would need a VIN that matches a TRD Pro model to buy Pro wheels doesn't make sense. Unless it's a marketing ploy to create demand for something that is scarce. If you have a TRD pro VIN you already have the wheels. But I recognize that the the '17 Tacoma Pro wheels are not so popular because of the glossy finish so they may want the 4Runner wheels. I had a set of the glossies in my possession and turned them back because they all had blemish defects. Bought the matte 4Runner wheels and I am very pleased. I think Toyota underestimated the market for the 4Runner Pro wheels in the so-called aftermarket.

About the hub centric question--would be very wise to be sure the center hub bore of any wheel is the same as stock (106.1mm). Who wants wobbly wheels? Hint: MB Wheels makes some pretty nice black wheels with the proper specs and offsets for Tacomas. They are available at Discount Tire Direct. Almost went in that direction. Saw a set on the road around town and they looked great.

Its not the first time that Toyota limits wheels by VIN so its most likely true. I remember seeing the TRD 16" being limited to by vin only for a few years.

I emailed Toyota hoping to get a response on why they stopped dead in their tracks selling these wheels, especially for those with a TRD vin......
