Larger selection of 16" offroad tires. Some people like having more tire meat there for offroading, claiming a better off-pavement ride. More tire carcass to air-down. 17" wheels are usually fancier so not as great for getting scratched up?

I'm on the boat that crawl control is worth the added price for the off-road package.

All said, I would like to add that the tires are actually a very important part of the suspension of any vehicle and for OR uses you will need more "cushion" to absorb the big batches and irregular terrain, so more rubber means better grip for OR applications. Personally, I don't do too much of OR, but I appreciate the softer suspension and the factory settings of the OR vs Sport (I tested both options before I ordered mine). I understand that this set up as is softer (after all is tuned for OR) obviously has its drawbacks for cornering compared with the Sport setup (which comes with different shocks and bigger wheels but thinner tires), but as it said all is a matter of personal choice, remembering that each alternative has its pros/cons.

    Love my crawl control!

I was stuck on an uphill boulder section yesterday, flipped on crawl control to the first speed setting, sat back and let the truck get me to the top. It really is wonderful engineering.

Now sure I could have backed up, picked a better line, worked the throttle etc. and propobally would have made it without CC.

My experience shows it works much like a front locker. I have only used it a couple of times but those couple of times I wasn't going forward without it. Had a friend spotting me up a tricky line where the front right wheel would drop into a hole making it lose traction. With a mix of rain/snow the rear wouldn't hook up. Was dead in the water trying different things (locker engaged), then hit crawl control. In about 3 seconds the front hooked up and my spotter started yelling "whatever you're doing keep doing it" and the truck climbed right up. My experience tells me it works, its value depends on what you like doing with your truck.

I'm brand new to off roading and I like the crawl control. It really shows you what the truck is capable of doing and has helped me cross some trail sections I don't think I would have attempted if I didn't have it. I think it is useful for people like me, but for more seasoned wheelers it's probably not necessary.

Well, Depends what you're implying. When I decide to pull the trigger and buy the truck, for sure my choice was a to get an Auto 4x4 DCSB. Now, I faced two options: TRD Sport or TRD OR. The 4x4 Sport package incorporates more "cosmetic" features as a very nice fake hood scoop, nice wheels, color matched fenders & rear bumpers, front deflector, as its most bold characteristics. OR had more tech stuff features, like the CC (A-TRAC) blistein shocks and a soft suspension tune and specially, a Diff Lock. When I ordered mine (May 2016) both, either the Sport or OR options was priced exactly the same, so I decided fo the OR for all the included features.

    Totally Unbiased Opinion Here

    1. Choose the Sport if you get a woody for the fake hood scoop and it will be a pavement only grocery getter.
    2. Choose the OR if you like to have the additional off road capabilities.

The rear diff locker in the OR is a clear advantage so no debate there.
I actually find the Crawl Control to be very nice. A lot of the off road places I go have pitched very rocky roads. Its so nice to let the CC steady go up on a rock and then steady break when coming down. So much better than having to go back and forth on the gas and break pedals constantly. My passengers especially appreciate it since they arent constantly doing the head nod. The odd sounds from this are a bit annoying though.
Also another CC perk is that I can let my kids drive when out in the boonies. All they have to do is steer and I can control the speed from the CC dial. Never seen so many smiles and bragging to friends that they have 'driven' my truck.

Welcome to the forums. I own a 3rd gen OR and would be happy to give my 2 cents of the pros of owning an OR.
    • The OR is the only way you can get the bigger 8.75" rear end with an auto trans.
    • Factory e locker has been reliable for me.
    • MTS (multi terrain select) is definatley not a gimmick. Basically an adjustable A-trac system and does not slip in rock mode. I just regeared to 4.88 and opted not to have the front ARB done because it just isn't necessary for my travels.
    • I've found crawl control to be useful (but not necessry) in steep decents and extremely useful when using recovery devices like max trax or maxsa boards.
If you really want a big ugly air skeewp do what I did and install a snorkel:anonymous:

Thanks for the info. (I didn't know about the big rear end that comes with the auto).

About the snorkel... HAHA, well very useful (Seems that you do a pretty serious diving, I imagine) but agree with you: very ugly too:D:thumbsup:
