on the IPod adapter, which one did you get and how does it work? I'm having a hard time determining if it completely replaces the factory plug in the back or If it runs in parallel to the factory wiring

I bought the old style 30pin unit. It directly plugs into an unused port on the stock radio (bottom right side when facing the radio INSTALLED, so when looking at the back of the radio, the port would be on the bottom left). Plug it in there and it works right away. You just press the DISC button a second time to activate it (just like you'd press AM a second time to get satelite radio-if your truck was equiped with it (09-11 only i believe)). Mine has a 30pin plug and an AV (headphone port) and it supports both my iphones and ipods. I would upgrade to a newer one if i wasn't dead set on double din dvd and such.

Test functions, if it doesn't work, they'll replace it (mine worked)

Route the wires behind the dash to the glove box or through the center console to hide your device.

 

I did all of that back in 2013 and have used it almost ever single day since. I don't drive without music. I'm a music person. I don't much function without it.
