Any issues plastidipping the grill? Road debris? Braking plastic clips? Washing? Etc.

Just plastidip it on the car, put something behind the grill to prevent overspray. In a few years when it has taken a beating, replace it with the pro grille.

Plastidip usually holds up very well to the elements. Just make sure you get at least 5-6 good coats on it. I dipped my wheels once and it was fine but tire shine will definitely strip it down. Shouldn't be a problem on a grill since I'm assuming you won't be putting tire shine on it...

If anything the plastidip acts like a protection to the grille. Do plenty of coats

It's very easy to remove the grill and dip it away from the truck. You won't have to worry about taping anything off and cleaning up potential over spray.

I did my grill. The problem is that the can says you have to have the entire surface wet at the same time or it may be different shades/textures. It's hell to get the entire thing wet with a spray can at the same time. I ended up using 4 cans. It's taken some hits from road debris but is fine. I blast the hell out of it with the high pressure hot soap and water and it hasn't affected it.
Be very careful when removing the Toyota emblem, the tabs are super fragile. I broke one tab and decided to not mess with the other.

Is that just the bezel and emblem dipped not the whole thing?

I removed the entire grill section and then removed the chrome bezel and logo- plastidipped the chrome parts and re-assembled - the color is spot on!
Home Depot sells the Rust oleum brand of Plasti dip, and that is what I used

Does it peel off similarly to plastidip?

so it says on the spray can- will find out when the time comes to remove it. Not too concerned as I really did not like the chrome.

Mines been done for over a year and absolutly no peeling or knicks that i can see and i wash it every week sometimes with pressure washer. The tabs are extremely delicate but worth taking off to do

    Only 1 can for me.

The key for me was letting it dry for 10 mins between coats, and I ended up with 4 coats.

ETA: its been through numerous car washes and rocky dirt roads with no issues.

Its so much easier than it sounds. Take your time with the tabs. It looks like hell after the first two light coats, but keep going and each coat looks better and better. I'm very pleased with the results. Its probably not quite as cool as a pro grille but it comes in over $400 cheaper.

I wanted something more permanent and rugged than plastidip, so I opted to use bedliner. Took about an hour to scuff the surface and then 1 can of the Duplicolor bedliner spray ($9.00). I couldn't be happier with the result.17200003_10155121438696738_307104346_o.jpg

That is nice. What I might do is plastidip first, if I like it, I'll bedline it. Then maybe I'll get a pro grille(grill)!

Thanks man. I didn't see the point of plastidip, as I knew I'd never want to go back to chrome. I usually do the drive through washes as well and plastidip will wipe right off if you hit it with a dry towel. It also doesn't like wheel cleaner/ tire shine very much.

Stopped by a bodyshop who sent me to a 4x4 shop who showed me a truck that had been done for over a year and it looked awesome. They had sprayed the grill and fender flares. Went home and knocked it out.

    Remove grill.
Knock off the gloss with a 3m scuff pad. I actually went in to every single rectangle.

Spray bedliner. These guys swear by the duplicolor blue can. That's what I used and I'm a fan. I did a set of rusty wiper arms on my last truck with duplicolor and it looked like the day I sprayed it 5 years later (Texas sun and all).

I was amazed at how easy it was. Just keep the can about 6 inches away and move fast. Do light coats and wait 5 minutes between coats. 1 can did the grill perfectly. The texture is really uniform and looks OEM.

Thinking about using gray plastidip with magnetic gray. Anyone done this?
