I can't remember the last time I saw this for sale anywhere in Pennsylvania. My dad was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island when he got his bottle...

It is one of the most complex stouts I have ever had. Not very expensive either.
    Not typical GI stuff.
Thick, smooth and full of flavor. :proposetoast:
Not to mention the ABV is quite high also.

    Same.

Will let you know how it is.
I love super dark chocolate, so I have a good feeling about this one. I haven't had anything bad in the dark dept. from Stone. :fingerscrossed:

My bro got me one of those for my Bday some 7 years ago. I opened it at a card game with the neighbors. I think it held about 2-3 quarts. If you take the bottle to the brewery, they charge you a modest fee to refill it. The maker is Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA, 25 miles N of San Diego. They were the 2nd largest craft beer brewery in the County about 5 years ago; don't know where they sit know, but they are a local favorite. They have a good restaurant also.

From their website as why the gargoyle is their logo.

"FOR CENTURIES, GARGOYLES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO WARD OFF EVIL SPIRITS. SINCE 1996, OUR GARGOYLE HAS HELPED US WARD OFF CHEAP INGREDIENTS, PASTEURIZATION AND CHEMICAL ADDITIVES... THE MODERN-DAY EVIL SPIRITS OF BEER!"
    Amen to that!

I should've pmd you about it. My wife saw it on fb last minute so we took the train up from LL and biked up from downtown. It was a pretty cool event. The owner was telling us it sold out. They capped it at 200 people

Had a Pablo Escobeer from Beachwood Brewing after the Fred Hall show today. Coffee stout on nitro. Not the best, but still good.

    Another day in BCN...

Ran into George Payne's Irish Bar today after a bus tour to the monastery at Montserrat.

Round one: a Guinness for the Mrs. and a Murphy's Irish Red for me.

    20170306_162558.jpg

    Round two for me:

    Kilkenny Irish Red...

    20170306_170007.jpg

As far as Irish reds go, the Murphy's was pretty typical for the style; caramel up front and roasted barley malt in the finish. I think it was the first Irish red I've had on nitro. A very good brew.

The Kilkenny was all caramel and no roasted barley, which to me isn't to style but it was still really good. The nitro made it even better.
