Had an awesome turn out for the meeting and night run. At least we got two taco owners to the meeting and one out in the trail. We ran out China Hat 30 miles and found some fun snow! Hope to see more of you next run or meeting!

I've never hit up China Hat, but have heard a lot of good things about it. We plan to visit Bend at the beginning of April (picking up an RTT at CVT). Would you recommend checking out China Hat some other time to camp? Or go for it? Any recommendations?

The actual China hat butte will customize your paint job. Loads of camping in the area. Cline butte (between Redmond and sisters) will customize you body. Bring protection Hahahahahaha

What about just China Hat Road, or even 1810? Would April be a good time of year to explore and camp around that area? We're just looking for a good place to enjoy our RTT in April.

Thanks for the heads up about the custom paint job. Does that go for the summer time too?

China hat rd (essentially 1810) has a wide birth with plenty of pull offs and side trails. If you follow it way out you can get to ft rock...or paulina of you miss the turn. April should be good, there's very little snow out that way now.
China hat butte is what will give you loads of pin striping, just look at my 4 runner. Wife wasn't happy about that. Still, there's a great view and camp spot up there.
Make sure to have your ohv permit. It's rarely checked but you don't wanna get caught without it.

Excellent. Great info. Thank you! We'll check out Fort Rock for sure! Hole in the Ground looks interesting too. Probably find somewhere to camp along CH Road or 1810. Whatever happens, we'll have to explore the area later in the year as well. Thanks again.

FS1810 and China Hat rd are not the same rd. FS1810 goes off to he right (southwest) of China Hat and climbs very quickly up to fs1910 and boarders the Newberry Volcanic Monument. In April you should be ok snow wise. There is still a ton of snow up high right now (even on China Hat rd) and it's really wet and sticky. Going up to East Lake is always fun but probably won't be possible in April with the snow pack we have as the rd (fs21) goes up over 7000 ft before dropping down to east Paulina lake. If you want more details on cool spots to camp go hit up the board at www.centraloregonlandcruisers.com/forum and just ask. They are good to check in with for snow conditions also as they are out almost every weekend/weekend.

Bought a 2005 manual 6 speed 4x4 tacoma and on the test drive there wasn't much of a chirp, the pre purchase inspection that at most the clutch might need to be redone. Reading all of the clutch chirp threads I feel like I have the exact same problems. Anybody near bend have this problem and can offer any help?
    Thanks

Hmm not sure about the chirp but if you do change the clutch go with a URD clutch
Also since your truck is a 05 keep an eye on the Head gasket as the earlier trucks had problems with them. Since then they changed the design and now no problems

I had mine done about 1 year ago. It's typically the throw out bearing(05-08 had problems) but I had them do the clutch at the same time cost about $1400 down here where I live but should cost considerably less up there with cheaper labor rates. The URD bearing kit was about $250 I think with shipping.

I appreciate it! Where are you located? What's the best way to keep an eye on the head gaskets?

Keep an eye on the coolant level and check your oil for coolant

There's one I see online for 225 right now and they say the uneven wear can wear the quill of the transmission. So you had both the clutch done and the 225$ kit? Just trying to figure out what I need. Heading back to bend today

This is great info, thank you! I've been to East Lake several times, but always via the main road (from 97). I'm looking forward to exploring the areas you mention! (Did you mean FS 9710 instead of FS 1910?)

I'm driving back from Portland right now. Just took a pit stop in Warm Springs and coming through Redmond pretty soon. You able to meet up by chance and take a look at my rig?
