Hey, I've never purchased a vehicle before and have my sights set on buying an 06' Double Cab with a manual V6 engine. I was hoping to learn about pretty much anything I could to get the dealerships price of 17 grand down as much as possible, or whether I should be waiting for another Tacoma to show up nearby. if this is any help, here's the link to the one i'm looking at via autotrader.

Check to see if the frame has been replaced under the recall. If not, make sure you do a really good inspection.

$17K @145K mi for 2006 model! Damn these Toyotas are expensive! Definitely check out the frame as mentioned, use a bright flashlight, look everywhere underneath. Test drive her, listen to everything. What kinda warranty/no lemon-guarantee will she have from the seller? She sure looks clean though!
And definitely negotiate price!! $17K is probably about right, but they can be negotiated for less.
Good Luck and take your time buying a vehicle.

Yeah that does seem a little steep for a 10 year old truck with nearly 150k miles...I would look around for other comparable in the area and hopefully they are cheaper and you can use those to show the dealer.

Thanks all for the replies! I went and checked it out in person again today and the frame seemed like it was in good condition, no rust anywhere or anything like that. Won't be able to test drive it until this Sunday as the dealer(one man dealership) left at noon today.

You still need to investigate the frame further other than appearance. Make sure it's been replaced!

    Little bit of stuff.
I bought the same exact truck about a year and a half ago with 225k miles on it and paid 9500 cash. KBB put her at 12. Got it for less cuz it was from a coworker and it was spotless. I'd see if you could get it down to 14-$15k.

Mine was $18,000 with 106,000 miles bought a year and a half ago, perfect truck with new tires.
Both dealerships in my town would only drop a little in price,as every used Tacoma would sell within a week of being on the lot, when I bought mine the dealer had 3 2006 models, the next day I went too pick mine up and the other 2 were gone in 1 days time.I got the best one.

+10 or 12 re: the frame. This vehicle will not be covered by the pending lawsuit as you will not have owned it on or before 12/2/2016...

Agreed. They hold their resale better than most vehicles on the market. That being said, I'd negotiate for a decent chunk less.
My '13 Has only lost about $4-$5k. :D

check the frame at the motor mounts. Google that for pics or or search in the forums.
Leaf springs, make sure the TSB has been applied.
V6? check the passenger side timing chain cover, right under the head to block to timing chain meeting point. They are known to have a minor leak there. you can find that in the forums as well.
Thats all I can think of now.
