    Its an intriquite process.

You will have to remove your fuel tank or remove your bed in its entirity.

    Pick your poison, per se.

The fuel pump is located INSIDE the gas tank.

    Hi fellow Canadian:)

I dropped the tank, my straps were paper thin and I had to make a set. Might want to check them out to make sure you have a new set on hand if needed

Move the bed back just enough to get to the top of the fuel tank is the easiest way to change out the fuel pump. 4 strong guys can move the bed once unbolted and wiring temporarily disconnected.

Thanks guys. I tried to take the box off but the bolts are too rusty. I'm going to drop the tank tomorrow. Hope all goes well. If not, I'll probably be back with some more questions!

:burnrubber:Hello, I had to remove the bed, yup it's a pain, just make sure your filter was changed and is not plugged up.

Ive accessed the fuel pump many times on my 04. Easiest way is to slide the box back enough to get at the top of the tank. Even if the bolts are rusty, use an impact or snip. If they break off drill them out. You'll eventually want to be able to take the box off.

Dropping the tank is a pain with box still attached. All the electrical is hooked up...hoses. Way easier to access it (pump) from the top with the tank still attached.

If you were closer to Calgary I'd give you a hand, but that's not the case haha

    Good luck

    Haha thanks. Okay another question.
The truck had a 2.7 in it but it ran like crap so I did a swap and put a 3.4 in. I didn't change anything around the tank so im not sure if I should put a pump for a 3.4 in or a 2.7
    I bought one for a 3.4

Here's an idea, if there is ANY chance you might add a supercharger at any time in the future now would be the time to add a high flow fuel pump from URD, JUST an idea,
Here is my build link if you need any ideas as we have the same Reg Cab truck.

You know....if you spent a couple extra hours you could bob that thing and you'd only have to take out 4 bed bolts instead of 6! Haha

Replace that fuel filter if you haven't already,
They plug up after a bunch of miles and probably more debris from the new install
of the new pump are in the tank now too

Ya i really need to. I'll get around to it. The pump was more important. After the motor swap my fuel gauge didn't work so I ran out of gas a few times and then it started driving like it was running out of gas even when it had a full tank so I really wanted to change that. I'll change the filter next pay day

@98tacomagirl I did the new URD fuel pump upgrade and it comes with very good instructions. I found the hardest part releasing the fitting behind the gas tank filler. If you had help lifting whole rear bed off avoids a lot of the hassles of dropping the tank and disconnecting fuel lines. I've been told it's the big four star bolts in the bed to remove. If I had to do it again I would loosen them and see if I could at least raise the bed some to make the hose disconnect easier.

Also a fuel line disconnect tool may be helpful.

This borrow tool from Autozone is required to get cover off tank but its free after deposit. - http://www.autozone.com/loan-a-tool...-kit/oem-fuel-pump-replacement-kit/605758_0_0
