Wiring help

I'm planning a front LED light bar and 2 LED pods for the rear bumper with dual switches in the left cubby. I already have the ala @mattgecko LED bed lights installed. I wired those in direct from the battery with its own inline fuse at the battery.

I don't want 3 separate inline fuses. But I can narrow it down to 2 I think. So I'm thinking I will wire in the bed lights into the rear pod's under the hood at a relay and use an inline fuse for the pod's and bed lights. Then another circuit for the front light bar with another relay and inline fuse. That leaves 2 inline fuses off the battery. That seems crowded. I'm not interested in splicing in power cables under the truck for the pod's using the existing power feeding the bed lights. To many splices even tho they will be soldered, silicone, and wrapped. That's also a PIA. So the pod's would have its own wire harness.

I'm planning on using Mctune wire harness's for this project. My question(s), Is this a sound plan or is there a better way?

There is a better way.

With this many circuits, I'd install a separate fuse box–there's a thread on this somewhere–run one heavy fused line from the battery to this new box and then connect each of your circuits to the box.

Much cleaner.

This. Run a 2AWG from the battery to a 100amp circuit breaker under the hood (grab one on Amazon for $40), then run the same wire back to the truck bed's cubby. Mount a 6-port BlueSea fuse box there, and connect the power wire to it. Then wire in all your rear accessories to the fuse box. Each will have a separate fuse and circuit, and you won't need to touch any OEM stuff.

Beautiful @0210. You did all my work for me. I will add all this up and see if its easier to buy a few harness from McTune and use them with the circuit breaker and 6 fuse box. I really like doing it this way simply because its clean and done right for the long term.

Any powered (positive) wire under the truck/hood should be inside this for physical protection.

 

This will be a fun project. And really not all that expensive for what you end up with.

 

Can I mount the circuit breaker under the hood and find a place for the 6port fuse box under the dash or hood and run accessory wire to the back of the truck and to the front light bar. Seems the fuse box doesn't need to be at the back of the truck. Or did I misunderstand you?

 

Just wondering. What is the purpose if the Bussman 100 amp breaker? If using a 6 port fuse block wouldn't that be sufficient for protection alone?

 

You need a fuse (or breaker) to protect the line from the battery to the fuse block and it needs to be as close to the battery as possible.

I just got a cheap fuse box from mictuning and a 5 pack of relays for 7$
Put it in a small box and wired it all up. Inside the box is alittle messy but outside(whatyousee) is all clean

If i did this again it would be a bluesea fuse box with ground terminals, or bussman rtmr

 

That Bussman rtmr is nice but pricey. I think the bluesea box and purchasing separate relays will do the same exact thing for half the money. Wire is cheap.

 

This 10 port box from Mictuning is half the money of the bluesea. What's wrong with the Mictuning box?
