You should get a Honda Ridgeline instead of Tacoma. I just think it would be a better direction for your build

Alright just read through all of that.... phew! I'll keep an eye out for when you rebuild or add to the factory shackle hangers. Very interested. After reading through your thread I realize I have a lot to learn about suspension. :bananadead:

    so just to recap...

-shackle flip just gives you lift and makes you feel like you have more "droop"
-shackle flip it self doesn't put more load on the springs (ultimately the springs are holding the weight of the truck regardless) but if the wheel is stuffed with the shackles flipped and no bump stops the springs will be subjected to negative arc and shit can get damaged (namely the springs and frame)
-shackle flip does not give more "travel" or whatever yall decided on earlier lol
-shackle flip can mess up your driveshaft angles.

Do you plan to rebuild hangers from scratch or incorporate the stock ones? (i know they are just temporary)

So based off the above statement it sounds like your preference and goal is to keep your pack from going negative? If correct what is your thought process on that or should I say whats the disadvantage of going negative? Weakens pack? Could break pack? Or all the above? Keep in mind my knowledge on this topic is pretty much ZILCH! I am like @ragincajun35 and trying to expand my understanding on all things suspension. Just so freakin much to take in! Sometimes reading these conversations I feel like my heads gonna explode from overload. It also doesnt help I am a hands on learner and trying to picture all this while reading it is crazy at times.

Again the leaf pack is a progressive spring rate. The flatter (and more negative) it goes, the higher the spring rate. The higher the spring rate, the more shit you have to do with valving you will need to actually be comfortable ride quality. The more valving you have, the hotter the shock gets. Hotter shocks means more frequent rebuilds. But yes you are also correct, the more negative the leaf pack goes, the faster you will wear out the pack with a higher chance of breaking a leaf. Springs (weather leafs or coils) are consumables, just like oil, spark plugs, ball joints, etc. They are not a one time purchase if you plan to keep your rig for a while. With my first gen, I went through a total of 3 leaf packs and a complete rebuild of one of those in 6 years. In addition, I was rebuilding shocks every 2 years. With this build, I'm trying to keep consumable parts to a minimum to have more trail time and less jack stand time.

Not everyone carries this same mentality. I've heard every excuse under the sun and people often justify shitty purchases because...well they spent money on it. I have no problem saying something is marginal or shitty regardless of how much money I spent on it. Hell just read my review on the 4x shackles a few pages back. At the end of the day, people that go for a ride in my rigs are always surprised with the ride quality regardless of terrain. You can have a well performing suspension on-road, crawling, washboard, whoops and still be comfortable. I'm not one to make those kind of sacrifices.

Makes sense now that I know what your thoughts are as far as trying to make things last longer. Thats my thoughts on pretty much everything in life. Make it last as long as possible so I dont have to redo or rebuy crap before I should. Thanks for taking the time to explain instead just saying " go read the thread". I have read every page of this thread and quite a few of them multiple times but sometimes you just gotta ask questions. Also never really thought about the packs being a progressive rate as well.
