So the past few days I've noticed my truck is sluggish to start if it even does. The temps have been in the negatives and my remote starter will attempt to start but won't fully crank. My dash clock will reset like a dead battery. I can jump it and start no problem. Once warmed up the truck still has issues starting also. I plan on going to get a battery, starter, and alternator test done today. What do you think it could be? Thanks for any help!

When it tries to start, what does it sound like? With the clock reset, and not starting after its run, I would guess Battery.

    Thanks for the input!
It sounds like the truck cranking but just keeps turning and will never fully crank. Yesterday it clicked continuously like a dead battery but it didn't do that today.

Sounds like battery...that's a bummer, assuming your truck is only two yrs old?

I had to replace my battery earlier this year. Same location, same model year truck, same symptom. I went to the AutoZone across from Dimond Center as I could not find a 27F anywhere else. The dealership offered to replace it free under warranty, but they couldn't get me in for 10 days and my battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than 8 hours without charging/jumping it. They refused to just give me a new battery without testing the old one.

Edit: If you have a block heater, plug it in and run it off a timer prior to using the auto-start. If you don't have one, look into getting one for those days where it is unusually cold.

My money is on the battery as well. I don't care who the battery manufacturer is, a weak cell can occur even in the best ones. However, if it does turn out to be the battery, most carry at least a 60 month prorated warranty, so check that out as well.

    Yea definitely a bummer.
Thank you for the input. I have a block heater and it was plugged in over night and it still had issues starting. Is there any easy way to make sure your block heater is working without removing it? I'll probably talk to the dealership but in all honesty I'd rather just bite the bullet and get a better battery than they'll give me.
    Thanks for the info!

    its def the battery.

FYI you can get group 24F batteries with more CCA's than the stock 27F battery (although slightly less reserve capacity)

If the dealer doesn't have one in stock, you have plenty of options up there. Batteries Plus has a supposedly decent AGM battery. There should still be an Interstate dealer in town and I'll bet the Eagle River Napa has a couple options. In 2012, I bought a 27F Diehard Gold from the Sears on Northern Lights, but I wouldn't buy anything with a warranty from Sears right now.

edit-and I'm surprised your 2015 OEM batteries are dying. My 08 battery lasted for years up there. It died during a couple of my tax free vacations, but it was still good when I did a preventative replacement in 2012.

Thanks for all the advice. Toyota told me it'll be two weeks before they can see me so I'm just going to buy a battery and forget about it. Is an optima really worth it or just a waste of money? If not what brand and type would you recommend?

Go with something with a good warranty and easy access.

This is why i went with a 24F from walmart.... 5 yr warranty and nationwide stores so if it does go bad ill likely be able to exchange it out very easily.

As Walmart didn't have the 27F, I grabbed a Duracell 27F from Batteries Plus in Indy. Another preventative change. It was the SLI27FM and had a 10% off and $10 rebate along with 36 month replacement and 65 month pro-rated replacement. They had the X2 Power AGM 27F which supposedly gets decent reviews, but even with the 60 month replacement it was much too expensive for me and a 9 year old truck.

I went with the duralast 24F-DLG. It has 750 cca so hopefully that should be able to handle it.

Battery. Lead acid batteries hate being fully discharged. It can only handle it a few times before the battery is toast. It sounds like you've boosted it a couple times; she's cooked.
