H Everyone - I'm relatively new to the forums here. Joined awhile ago but few posts. I currently drive a 1999 single cab 4x4. Upgrading very soon potentially to a 2015 DCSB Off-Road with 40,000 miles. I think it has premium sound system, TRD skid plate, and a few other minor upgrades. What price should I be looking for OTD?

Dealer is at $31,500 OTD. That's with no negotiation. I was thinking $29,000 OTD but is that asking too low? It's certified and comes with lifetime oil changes.

Did a bit of digging on the 2015 'what did you pay' forum. Saw a post there where the price for a similar build was $31,700 before TTL. Although this was brand new. Before TTL this truck is $29,000. So about a $2,700 discount for it being used if my math is right.

What is wrong with making "too low" an offer? The dealer was asking $22,300 for my '09 (135k miles, one local owner, sold and always serviced by this same dealer) when my wife and I first saw it. We offered $17,500 out-the-door cash. The countered at $19,500; we got up to leave and they went down to $19k.

We played a couple more rounds and ended up driving it home at $18k OTD...

I haven't negotiated car prices before, this is my first "new" car purchase, so having your feedback is really helpful. I'll offer low and see what they counter with. Sounds like you got a killer deal on that 09.

My 15 TRD Off Road DCSB with 25,000 miles was $30,500. It came with a tonneau cover, Weathertechs, block heater, and a nice Astrostart. Purchased in March of 2016.

I paid 30 OTD for my 15 AC with a brand new bakflip bed cover but mine only had 18k on the clock. Don't do the life time oil changes its a waste of time plus they will claim its only lifetime for a corolla and your truck uses more oil so there is an up charge for the truck BS. I would go in lower and hit a 28 otd and see what sticks.

Good call didn't realize that about the oil changes. I'll shoot for 28k that seems reasonable, given the OTD price (relative to mileage) on yours and the previous post.

Just remember - it's your money and they aren't the only show in town.
Do your homework. Be prepared before walking in.

For a laugh and an inner peek at used car dealers, listen to this.

    Good luck.

One other thing, I thought the tires looked worn out, salesperson agreed, I'm making new tires part of the deal if possible.

Always be willing to walk away if things are not working out how you would like them to thank them for their time and leave do not let them say what is it going to take to get you into this truck today.

That's a good reference point for comparison. Agreed.

With used cars I always look up the trade-in values on KBB, Edmunds, NADA, etc. and kind of use that as my starting price/what I'd like to pay guide--you can bet the dealer allowed no more than that (probably less) when the one you are looking at was traded in. You then have to consider how "hot" the particular vehicle is. Here in NS Florida/SE Georgia clean, nice used Tacomas are quick sellers that command premium prices.

When (10/24/16) we bought the '09 DCSB, SR5, TRD-Sport we have now I had a bit of an advantage "price-wise" as it had 135k miles on it which scares off a lot of buyers; however it was a one owner, looked like new in and out, and had been purchased/serviced at the dealer we got it from (all recalls, TSBs, etc,; traded in on a Tundra)

The mileage didn't bother us even a bit; my wife had an '89 Celica GT that had 405k when we sold it, a '98 RAV 4 that had 385k when sold, and currently an '03 Highlander with 205k and no signs of stopping. I had a '91 Cressida I sold to my brother with 180k miles, he drove it to over 350.

Rule #1 though is be prepared to walk out if you can't get the deal you want--remember the dealer wants to sell the vehicle more than you want to buy it--that's how THEY make money...
